Locationgenic city, Yokohama
- Progress
──What kind of impression do you have in Yokohama, the stage of "Abunai Criminal"? - Hiroshi Tate (hereinafter "Tachi")
I think Yokohama is a "wet city" where people and scenery are moist. I feel like Tokyo is a very dry city. Around Yamashita Park, Hotel New Grand hasn't changed since then, but it's exotic because of the atmosphere. I hope you will keep such a wonderful place in the future. - Mr. Kyohei Shibata ("Shibata")
Yokohama is really a picture. Not only the scenery and buildings, but also the small alleys that ran around at the time of shooting, I feel that it is a piece that creates the image of Yokohama. No matter where you shoot, you will be saved by the scenery and it will be a wonderful image. - Mayor Yamanaka (hereinafter "Mayor")
I'm happy! "Abunai Detective" has been filmed in Yokohama since 1986, but the relationship between Yokohama and movies is old, and in the Taisho era there was a studio in a corner of Motomachi Park and many movies were produced. Since then, scenery unique to Yokohama, such as harbors, Western-style architecture, and Chinatown, has been taken up as location locations. In response to a voice from the film world and the local community, the Yokohama Film Commission was launched in the city hall. At present, 700 to 800 consultations are received every year, and experienced city officials carefully support more than 50 shots. Through these city initiatives, the creation of a relationship of trust with the people involved in the production of the works has led to a virtuous cycle in which many works set in Yokohama are created, and the number of visitors to Yokohama is increasing. Going forward, we will continue to spread the appeal of Yokohama through movies and dramas, which will lead to improved brand power and customer attraction.
- Shibata
I often appeared in Yokohama on the stage, but even when I was shooting, everyone in Yokohama was warm. - Tachi
Everyone is very cooperative. I was shooting the western police in Tokyo, but Yokohama was warmer. - Mayor
Thank you very much. From now on, we will continue to create an environment where you can feel "I want to film in Yokohama". - Progress
──In the past 38 years, the scenery has changed drastically due to the progress of town development such as the Bay Bridge and the Landmark Tower. - Tachi
There was nothing in Akarengasoko 38 years ago. Now it's a commercial facility with a good atmosphere. Chinatown is also crowded and you're fine. The hammerhead that appears in this work and the newly built intercontinental hotel are also wonderful. You can see the sea right next to you. I don't have such a location. - Mayor
The waterfront line, which is about 5 km from Rinko Park (Seaside Park) to Hammerhead and Yamashita Park, has beautiful scenery and tourist facilities, so I think it is a world-class location. - Tachi
This time, I participated in the "The Yokohama Parade" which runs by the sea from Yamashita Park to Akarengasoko, and once again felt the charm of Yokohama.
- Mayor
Not only during the parade, but also during the pedestrian paradise in Yamashita-koen-mae and the Yokohama Sparkling Twilight fireworks launched at night all year round using public spaces. Going forward, we will continue to further refine the appeal of Yokohama's border line, which is not found in other cities, and create a lively space so that more customers can come from Japan and overseas. Let's take a walk together. - Shibata
When I was shooting, I ran around the back alleys, so when I stopped by private, I had a lot of memories, such as "I ran around here too" or "I shot this alley too." - Mayor
Good old areas such as Honmoku, Noge, and Ise Sasaki are also one of the attractions of Yokohama. In "Abunai Criminal", various places appear, ranging from old-fashioned streets to areas where new buildings are lined up, but in cooperation with Toei, who distributes, we created a map that introduces past location tours. We also have a tie-up project where you can get a sticker of "Abunai Criminal" when you shop at the target store. I would like many visitors to Yokohama to experience the charm of Yokohama by visiting the stage of a famous scene, and to revitalize the economy. - Shibata
The scenery of the port where you can see cruise ships, container ships, and cranes from Yamashita Park and Osanbashi is also like Yokohama.
- Mayor
That's right. The view of the port from the top of the sea is also wonderful. The number of cruise ships entered Yokohama Port last year was 171, the highest in Japan. We are working to ensure that cruise customers coming to Yokohama can enjoy the view of Yokohama from the sea, and that after entering the port, they will visit the city of Yokohama. In the future, we plan to develop an observation zone in Rinko Park (Seaside Park) and open facilities with cafes and running stations in fiscal 2025 to further expand tourism consumption. Please come again.
Surrounded by wonderful friends
- Progress
──How was the filming of "Abunai Criminal" for the first time in eight years? - Tachi
I don't think there was a blank for eight years, so everyone was the same as in the past, and soon became a team of Taka, Yuji, and Abu detective. I'm really good friends. - Shibata
During the eight years since the previous work, there was COVID-19, so I think everyone spent a different time than before. It's impossible to do anything. After such a time, I realized again the charm of being able to spend time with my friends. - Mayor
"I can spend time with my friends" is a very nice thing. I think Yokohama has a strong image of the city, but in fact it is a city with very strong connections between people. There are many people who support the local community, such as the Neighborhood Association Neighborhood Associations, and many local festivals are also popular, watching over the elderly and children, and cleaning up parks and roads. I think that the protection of these regional bonds has also led to the warmth of Yokohama, which you mentioned earlier. Yokohama City will continue to support activities that support the community in the future.
Developing young sensibilities
- Progress
──This work has been loved for a long time, but is there anything that is valued in the creation of the work? - Shibata
I value how hard I can do my best and do my best no matter how hard it is. It's the attitude of having fun without pulling out in any scene, "Abu criminal soul". - Tachi
This time, there were a lot of young shooting staff who were not born at the beginning of the airing. But young people are rich in sensibilities, agile, and have the absorption capacity to accept anything. I was inspired, and I think we have created a work that combines past history and new winds.
- Mayor
The hard work and young power of the two people and the staff were the source of creating wonderful works. I also think it is most important to expand the sensitivity and potential of the younger generation. In Yokohama City, we are giving top priority to supporting children who will lead the future, with the aim of becoming a “town that has raised children”. For example, about 40,000 children participated in the speech contest of the "Yokohama Children's International Peace Program," which deepens international understanding and thinks about peace, under the theme of "what I want to do for international peace." He told me his passion. The prizewinners visit the United Nations headquarters in New York, but they are surprised by the short-term growth of the children who have had valuable experiences. By working hard on everything from a young age, you can expand your experience and grow richly. I believe that it is only Yokohama that can provide such a large-scale global education, and we will continue to create opportunities for younger generations to think and communicate on their own in many fields and expand their infinite possibilities.
Message to Yokohama Citizens
- Progress
──Finally, I would like a message from you to the citizens of Yokohama. - Shibata
Thanks to everyone, it became a very nice movie. I think the filming of this movie was successful in Yokohama. I would be happy if you could enjoy it. - Tachi
That's true. 38 years ago, I decided to shoot "Abunai Detective" in Yokohama, and I feel that it was the victory of "Abunai Detective". I hope you will be able to watch movies with the charm of Yokohama, which evolves every day, while having the same goodness. - Mayor
Thank you very much. In order to continue to be a town loved by many people, as well as Taka and Yuji, we will create charms that can be transmitted to the outside of the city.
