Public building ceiling fallout measures project

Last updated on March 31, 2025.

The revised Building Standards Law Enforcement Order was enforced in April 2014 in response to a large number of falling ceilings of buildings with large spaces in Great East Japan Earthquake. As a result, it was required to conform to the new standards for specific ceilings (* see below) when building new buildings. On the other hand, the specified ceiling of existing facilities has not been retroactive to the new standards, but has been treated as ineligible.
Therefore, in Yokohama City, in order to ensure the safety of citizens and to fulfill the role of disaster prevention functions sufficiently in the event of a disaster, we have decided to renovate all specific ceilings such as existing ineligible citizen-use facilities, etc. We will strive to reduce the damage caused by falling off. In order to promote this steadily and systematically, we have formulated the "Yokohama City Public Building Ceiling Fallout Measures Business Plan".

What is a specific ceiling?

A suspended ceiling with a ceiling height of more than 6 m, a horizontal projection area of more than 200 m2, and a ceiling member weighs more than 2 kg / m2.
