July issue Local report related to the Kamakura period

Yokohama, where the Kamakura Highway passes, has many historical sites and legends that survive the Kamakura period. This time, we visited places related to Kanazawa Ward and Asahi Ward, where there are many historical sites and shrines derived from the characters of Taiga drama series's 13 Kamakura-dono.

Kanazawa Ward

The first place I visited was Seto Shrine.
It is a very accessible location, about a 2-minute walk from Kanazawa Hakkei Station on the Keikyu Line and Seaside Line.

Originally, this area was a difficult place for maritime traffic, so it seems that it was worshiping the sea god. It is said that the beginning of Seto Shrine was that when Minamoto no Yoritomo raised his army, he recommended Izu Mishima Myojin who prayed for victory.
Here, there are many valuable cultural assets that have been handed down since the Kamakura period, including the Minamoto no Yoritomo's child, Sanetomo Minamotono, dedicated to his mother Masako Hojo.

Next, we visited Biwashima Shrine on the opposite side of Seto Shrine.
As "Biwajima", it is a shrine where an island is built under the sea and built there.

It is reported that when Minamoto no Yoritomo built the Seto Shrine, his wife, Masako Hojo, recommended the Chikubushima Benzaiten in Lake Biwa, which he had always worshiped.

Asahi Ward

In Asahi Ward, there are many places related to Shigetada Hatakeyama, a warlord who was active during the Kamakura period.
The first thing I visited was the Shigetada Hatakeyama Monument, which was built to commemorate the 750th anniversary of Shigetada Hatakeyama's death, near the Asahi Ward Office, about a 7-minute walk from Tsurugamine Station on the Sotetsu Line, and the "Sakasa Yatake" planted to commemorate the 800th anniversary of his death.

When Shigetada hit the arrow, this "Sakasa Yatake" said, "If you are right, you will create branches and leaves in this arrow and grow." It is reported that it increased by two trees and continued to grow.
(It seems that it grew on the bank on the northeast side of the Asahi Ward Office until the mid-1940s, but since it disappeared, it has been replanted at its current location.)

In addition, near the Asahi Ward Office, Shigetada's neck is said to have been celebrated by Aiko (Aiko), Saburo (Saburo) and Taka (Taka).

And the last thing I visited was Yakuoji Temple.
Here is "Rokutsuzuka", which is said to have buried 134 Clan Party, including Shigetada.

In addition, Shigetada is enshrined at Yakuoji, a sacred temple, and a memorial service is held every year on June 22, the anniversary of his death.

In addition, Asahi Ward is dotted with land related to Shigetada Hatakeyama, which is popular in the local community.
In addition, we have selected products related to Shigetada as the "Shigetada Brand" among Asahi no Gem, which certified delicious foods in the ward recommended by Asahi Ward.

Around the land of connection

This time, by visiting places related to the Kamakura period, I was able to learn about a different aspect of Yokohama. In addition to the introduction, there are many historical sites and stories in Yokohama City that survive the Kamakura period. Why don't you walk around the town while thinking about the Kamakura period?
