Commentary (life during the war)

Last updated on May 11, 2022.

When the Manchurian Incident broke out, comforting front soldiers and dedication campaigns such as airplanes and guns became popular. During this period, large-scale air defense exercises were often carried out and the "quasi-war regime" was formed.

When we entered the Sino-Japanese War, civil life was placed under severe restrictions from both physical and mental aspects. Since June 1940, daily necessities have been distributed one after another, and organizations such as the "neighbor group" have been established to communicate government instructions to the end.

With the worsening of the war, the husband and their sons were sent to the battlefield by a "temporary warrant" so-called red paper (Akagami). The funeral procession, which welcomes the silent return of spirits of the war dead, became a daily sight.

Various organizations were organized to protect those who did not go to the battlefield after the gun, and the Patriotic Women's Association and the National Defense Women's Association played an active part in sending off, comforting, and donation campaigns for expeditionary soldiers. In addition, women were also mobilized to munitions factories to compensate for the labor shortage of men.

elementary school student students and students in the upper grades of elementary school were driven to production sites and battlefields one after another by "mobilization of students" and "mobilization of students".

As the war worsened, elementary school student, who was in the lower grades of national school, avoided air raids and was forced to live in a group shelter in a strange land.
