2003 (11th) Fisheries Census

The Fisheries Census (under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, basic statistics) clarifies the production structure and employment structure of Japan's fisheries, comprehensively grasps the actual situation and changes surrounding fisheries such as fishing villages, fishery distribution and processing industries, etc. It has been implemented with the aim of creating and providing basic materials for planning, drafting and promoting fisheries administration measures based on the Basic Fisheries Plan.
Beginning in 1949 (Showa 24), it has been implemented every five years since 1963 (Showa 38).
