On Tuesday, May 29, 1945, the weather was fine from the morning and there was no wind.
After 9:00 am, the B29 bomber, who appeared over Yokohama, flew over the war-proof Japanese guns and machine guns, causing air strikes from high altitudes.
The massive incendiary bombs burned most of the city center of Yokohama, which had a population of 970,000 at the time, except for Yamate-District and Yamashita Park.

Commentary

In the early morning of May 29, 1945, 517 B29 units belonging to the 21st bomber group of the United States started from Mariana Base, reached over Yokohama at around 9:20 am, and in about 1 hour until about 10:30, a total of 438,576 units (2,569.6 tons) were incendiary.

Incendiary bomb attacks called M69, which are suitable for burning a densely populated wooden house, the city area of Yokohama, centered on Naka Ward, Minami Ward, Nishi Ward and Kanagawa Ward, was wrapped in fire.

According to the official announcement immediately after, the damage caused by the Great Air Raid will be 3,650 dead, 10,198 severely and slightly injured, 309 missing, and 311,218 affected.
