With the opening of the port on July 1, 1859 (old calendar on June 2, 1859), Yokohama, which had been a small village until then, began to gather technology, culture, and people from Japan and overseas as an overseas point of contact, continued to develop around the port, and the current big city of Yokohama was built.
In commemoration of the opening of the port, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the port and the 100th anniversary of the opening of the port, commemorative projects such as the establishment of city songs and the construction of commemorative facilities have been carried out.
Also, on the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port in 2009, Yokohama City implemented various commemorative projects in order for the entire city of Yokohama to appreciate the achievements of the port and its predecessors, and to encourage Yokohama to become a city full of dreams and hopes. .

Yokohama Port 150th Anniversary Commemorative Project Mascot Character "Tanemaru"
"Tanemaru" is the spirit of "Tamax Tree" in the courtyard of the Port Opening Museum. "Tamax Tree" is a living witness of history that has been watching Yokohama since Japan opened and opened 150 years ago.
Yokohama, which accepted, nurtured, and grew up in various cultures, puts a new "power of seeds" on "Tanemaru" and "departure" toward the world in 2009.
The design of the character "Tanemaru", which has the image of sprouting from the seeds on the boat, was selected by open call for participants from all over the country. The nickname "Tanemaru" was also decided by open call for participants.

The theme song "Mirai" for the 150th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port, written and composed a popular duo "Yuzu" from Yokohama City.
Mirai contains thoughts on Yokohama, the hometown where Yuzu was born and raised.
Yokohama citizens also participated in the chorus recording, and it was released on April 22 as a coupling song for the single "I want to meet".
The theme song "Mirai" was used in various situations, such as the "Commemorative Ceremony Original Show", the commemorative theme event "Kaikoku Expo Y150", and the "Yokohama / Kanagawa Destination Campaign", and excited the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port.
