Effects on the fetus during pregnancy

Effects on babies

Effects on children from statistics
When you smoke, a harmful substance called nicotine is taken into your body. Nicotine causes increased heart rate, contraction of peripheral vasculars, and increased blood pressure, damaging blood vessels. This nicotine becomes a substance called cotinine in the body and is excreted from urine.
The graph below shows how much this cochinin is coming from the child's urine. If the number of children in households who do not smoke is 1, it indicates how many times more households smoke. Cochininine doesn't come out unless you are affected by cigarette smoke.
