Search for JIS Standard (Revised 3rd Edition)

Last updated on December 26, 2024.

Introduction

JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) is a national standard established based on the Industrial Standardization Law on the Nihon Sangyo standard. As of March 31, 2020, 10,858 standards have been established for technical content related to industrial products, etc.
The established JIS is issued as a "JIS Standard Form" in a booklet for each JIS in accordance with the prescribed format and format. In principle, the deliberations will be made within five years, and confirmation, revision, or abolition will be made by the decision of the Nihon Sangyo Standard Investigation Committee.
The JIS standard numbers given individually are written in the order of one alphabet character, classification number, (hyphen, branch number), colon, year of establishment or revision.

Regarding the current JIS standard, the standard slips and handbooks are placed on the 4th floor of Chuo-toshokan and on the JIS standard shelf (the shelf No. 51 on the natural science floor on the right after getting off the elevator) and can be viewed inside the museum.

In this museum, Japanese JIS standard slips are stored in dodge files (JIS complete income version) that have been classified, organized, and removed by category of standard number. We don't have an English translation.

JIS Standard Form
Location: 4th floor, Natural Science Department shelf No. 51 JIS corner

It consists of JIS total catalog, YEARBOOK (English version of JIS total catalog), and handbooks for each field. The field-specific handbook contains the JIS related to each field, not by standard number, so it has a list and is useful for purposes such as summary surveys. However, it is not published for all fields, and some commentary attached to the standard slip (explains points that became a problem at the time of deliberation, differences from the old version, international standards, etc.) Please note that some may be omitted, and that only the revised parts may be listed as supplements at the time of revision.

When examining the JIS standard number in the JIS summary catalog

If you know the standard number, you can see the standard slip directly, but I want to see the standard of ○○○.…In such a case, you need to check the standard number.

You can find the corresponding standard number by finding a section or classification number from the section / classification number list on the back of the cover of the JIS general catalog, or using the JIS standard name index (in alphabetical order) at the end of the book. I can do it.

The JIS summary catalog contains the abolished standard number and name. For standards that have been transferred to other standards, the standard number of the destination is listed after the name.
Chuo-toshokan preserves the decommissioned JIS standards since fiscal 2006. In addition, since the back number of the JIS handbook is stored, you can see the JIS text at that time in the handbook for the year before and after revision. However, it is not possible to see items that have not been published in the handbook or explanations. For more information, please contact Chuo-toshokan.

International standards such as ISO (Standard of the International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (Standard of Kokusai Electric Standard Conference) are not held in Chuo-toshokan. Also, it is not possible to view them for free on the Internet. However, in recent years, JIS has been working on consistency with these international standards, and it may be possible to obtain necessary information by referring to the JIS standards corresponding to the required ISO and IEC standards.

"Degree of correspondence" between JIS and the corresponding international standards

The JIS text shows the corresponding international standard number and the equivalence of its contents. Specifically, ISO/IEC GUIDE21 classifies "degree of response" in the following three types.

IDT: identical ⇒ International standards are adopted as a whole, except for minimum editing differences, all matches are matched.

MOD: Revision (correction) ⇒ Adoption of international standards, the technical content with international standards and differences in the composition of standards are to the minimum necessary, and technical differences are clearly identified and explained.

NEQ: Not equivalent (not equivalent) ⇒ Not equivalent to international standards, not equivalent to technical content and composition of standards, but not clearly identified changes.
