Valuable materials
Last updated on July 31, 2024.
The Kanazawa Library strives to collect and store a wide range of local materials related to Kanagawa Prefecture and Yokohama City, especially those related to the Kanazawa Ward.
Some of the materials collected in this way are valuable materials that are not often held elsewhere.
These valuable materials have been shown several times in the past, but they are usually carefully preserved in the back of the library library.
We have posted a digital image of these materials on "Yokohama's Memory" in "Knowing Yokohama" on the Yokohama City Library website.
You can also see the enlarged image, so please use it.
Here, we will introduce the main materials of those materials.
Ukiyo-e and pictures
Speaking of the scenic beauty of Kanazawa Ward, Hiroshige Ando (1797-1858) is famous for the figure of Yakatsu Kanazawa.
The Kanazawa Library has a four-cut version from Kinryuin and a small postcard-sized version.
The composition of these two types is almost the same, but the colors are very different.
Hakkei Yasumi Figure
Kanazawa Library also has two types of views from Nokendai, which is known for its good view.
Among them, "Hakkei Yasumizu" is said to be one of the earliest ones.
If the oldest of the library collections is "Hakkei Yasumi", the largest one is "Kanazawa Hakkeiyuki Map".
It is a large picture of 45cm long and 94cm wide, so it rarely comes out of the library.
Takeyo Kanazawa Eight Views
In addition, there are four types of "Takeyo Kanazawa Hakkei Chart", which have many versions, and can be said to be variations of the same composition, "Kanazawa Hakkei Map (Hisaiko Kanazawa Hakkei Chart)" and "Kanazawa Hakkei (Nishiko Hakkei Takeno Kanazawa Copy) ".
Postcard
Until before the war, postcards were one of the important media that vividly conveyed not only sightseeing spots but also the world, customs, and sometimes incidents.
The Kanazawa Library holds several postcards created after Kanazawa's Hakkei and several postcards introducing the historical sites of Kanazawabunko.
Both were created in the early Showa era, and the photos show the scenery of the time.
