(Reference) Yokohama City Library Material Collection Policy

(Objective)
The purpose of the Yokohama City Library (hereinafter referred to as "City Library") is to collect library materials (hereinafter referred to as "materials") appropriate for the international cultural city of Yokohama, pursuant to the provisions of the Library Law, the Yokohama City Library Ordinance and the Yokohama City Library Regulations.

(Fairness of collection of materials)
1 In order to ensure that the materials held by City Library are not biased toward specific ones, we will collect materials objectively from a fair standpoint in response to all citizens' willingness and requests to learn.

(Development of materials according to functions)
2. Collect, organize, and preserve the materials necessary to contribute to research and research, improvement of culture and recreation systematically and systematically in preparation for all the needs of citizens.

(Scope of collection of materials)
3 The scope of collection of materials shall be as follows.

  • (1) Domestic publications are collected in a wide range of fields, from general materials to professional materials.
  • (2) We will strive to collect as many overseas materials as possible.
  • (3) Local materials and administrative materials will be collected mainly on local materials related to Yokohama, and will also work to collect materials around the city.

(Type of materials)
4 The types of materials shall be printed materials such as books, successive publications, and pamphlets, and non-printed materials such as films (microforms, movies, photographs, etc.), magnetic tapes, and electronic publications.

(Method of collecting materials)
5. As a method of collecting materials, in addition to purchasing new books and used books, make full use of means such as donation, exchange, deposit, and duplication.

(mutual cooperation of materials)

  • (1) In consideration of the composition and usage of City Library's materials, we will collect materials so that we can respond to mutual cooperation between libraries.
  • (2) Collection of materials, taking into account the composition of materials of various nearby libraries and related organizations.

(Update of materials)
7 Update of materials paid out due to dirt damage due to use, etc. shall be performed as necessary.
