Survey of scattered garbage on rivers and urban areas

Last updated on December 19, 2024.

What is the problem of garbage scattered on rivers and urban streets?

Garbage littered on the street, etc., or garbage that has been properly dumped at a collection point, if scattering prevention measures are insufficient, it will be thrown away by wind and rain and become scattered garbage. Scattering garbage flows into the ocean via rivers and causes marine litter.

In particular, plastic garbage can cause death when sea turtles and seabirds eat incorrectly with food or get entangled with the body. In addition, deterioration and fragmentation due to ultraviolet rays become microplastics, and there are concerns about marine pollution and the impact on ecosystems (marine plastic problems, microplastics).

In order to reduce the outflow of garbage into the ocean, measures on rivers and land are important. Therefore, a survey was conducted to understand the actual situation of scattered garbage on rivers and urban streets.
