Held for the first time in three prefectures! International exposition on the theme of "environment"

  • Mayor Yamanaka (hereinafter "Mayor")
Hello everyone. Thank you very much for today. Did you know that the International Exposition will be held in Yokohama in 2027, three years later?

Mayor

  • Mr. Toshiho Shimura
Yes. I lived in Seya Ward, the venue, so I knew for a long time. On November 1, 2023, 1234 days before the event was held, the Seyamaru Objet by Seya Ward mascot character "Seyamaru" was unveiled.
  • Mr. Masayo Miyamoto
I learned from the news that Aina Ashida will be an ambassador (outside site).
  • Mr. Akira Miyamoto
I learned this for the first time.
  • Miyuki Matsumoto
I didn't know until a while ago, but recently I'm excited to notice that pamphlets are placed in various places.
  • Mr. Yasutoshi Matsumoto
I knew it because I was involved in civil engineering work. It's a national project, so I'm really looking forward to it.
  • Mayor
Thank you very much, everyone. "GREEN x EXPO 2027" is the first international exposition held in Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama and Kanagawa prefectures, with the theme of flowers, greenery, and the environment.

From Yokohama to the World

  • Mr. Miyamoto (Akira)
I thought it was only flowers and greenery, but the environment is also the theme!

Mr. Masayo Miyamoto

  • Mayor
Yes. Set in the vast satoyama of Kami Seya, we welcome many people with overwhelming flowers and greenery.
"GREEN" is also used to mean "environmentally friendly" in addition to flowers and greenery. It's "GREEN x EXPO 2027" by multiplying it by "EXPO" from the exposition.
The summer of last year (2023) was very hot, but I think everyone has a strong sense of crisis regarding climate change caused by the progress of environmental destruction. This is the challenge facing the world on a global scale. For the younger generation and children who are participating today, GREEN × EXPO will solve these issues with the power of nature and the power of green, and we hope to make it an expo that conveys an environmentally friendly future from Yokohama to the world.
  • All them
    Yes, yeah.

The 3 family and the mayor who talk around the table

Familiar, diverse and attractive parks are the treasures of Yokohama.

  • Mayor
Yokohama is a big city! I often have the image of that, but in fact, one of the attractions is that there are many rich nature. Is there a place where you can come into contact with nature in your daily life?

Mayor

  • Mr. Shimura (Ito)
There are many opportunities to interact with nature through children's events. My son likes a park with playground equipment like a potato insect in the neighborhood.…。
  • Shimura-go-kun
But Imomushi Park is under construction now, so I'm playing in a small park nearby.
  • Mr. Shimura (Ito)
It's a park with lots of acorn, so I pick up acorn and take it home to play.

Mr. Shimura

  • Mr. Matsumoto
I often go to Negishi Forest Park (Naka Ward) near my house. You can enjoy the seasonal scenery such as cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, and you can often see people walking dogs. Take your grandchildren to see ponies, play with playground equipment, and pick up acorn. It is spacious and healed.
  • Mayor
I often picked up acorn with my child. Children love acorn for some reason (laughs).
  • Mr. Miyamoto (Light)
I often went to Maioka Park (Totsuka Ward). In a large and green park, when you are in elementary school, you can help with rice cultivation or go on an excursion at elementary school. I often touched nature and greenery at school events.
  • Mr. Miyamoto (Akira)
Maioka Park is a familiar and favorite park for our families, not only when their children are small but also when they still go for a walk with their couples. Satoyama spreads and there is seasonal pleasure, especially during the rainy season, hundreds of fireflies can be seen before going to the back of the satoyama.
  • Mr. Miyamoto (Light)
Indeed, the whole thing in front of you is filled with firefly light. The picture doesn't convey the goodness, so it's best to actually see it.
  • Mr. Yasushi Matsumoto
Since I was a coach of youth baseball, I often used Okamura Park (Isogo Ward). The children were training on the soil instead of paved roads.
  • Mayor
Everyone, it's a park that is close to nature. In last year's Yokohama Public Awareness Survey, many respondents answered that they were satisfied with the natural environment of Yokohama, such as "maintenance of parks and zoos" and "promotion of green conservation and greening." The park with various charms is truly a treasure of Yokohama.

"Citizenship" to protect the environment of Yokohama

  • Mayor
It is thanks to the members of the "Park Protection Association" that the park can always be used comfortably and comfortably. The local people play a central role in cleaning up cleans and making beautiful flower beds in the four seasons. There are about 2,700 parks in Yokohama, of which about 90% have formed protection associations.
In addition to the Park Protection Association, the Waterside Protection Association, which cleans rivers and waterside facilities, the Hama Road Supporter, which cleans nearby roads and cleans flower beds, and practices environmental actions in the community. The rich environment of Yokohama is protected by the power of truly many citizens, such as the "Environmental Business Promotion Committee", which conducts educational activities.
  • Mr. Yasushi Matsumoto
I also cooperate with the Park Protection Association with a little effort, and once a month, mowing the park and picking up trash.

Mr. Yasutoshi Matsumoto

  • Mayor
That's right! Thank you very much.
I think that this is the "citizen power" of Yokohama, where each and every citizen acts with the desire to "improve the area." It is a wonderful asset of Yokohama that is proud of the world. GREEN x EXPO is a “Yokohama Green Expo” created with citizens who are engaged in activities to protect the environment in each region, and communicates the “citizen power” of Yokohama to the world. I want to do it.

Take action together 20 or 30 years from now! "Yokohama Future Creation Conference (tentative name)"

  • Mayor
Today, Mr. Shimura's children and Mr. Miyamoto, a high school student, also participate, but protecting the global environment is also an issue for young people who will lead this future. Therefore, with the occasion of the GREEN × EXPO, the Yokohama Future Creation Conference (tentative name) will be launched as a place for university students and young employees of companies to think together and discuss what society should be in 20 or 30 years ahead. I would like to make it a place where everyone can think about the environment from Yokohama to Japan and the world.
  • Mr. Miyamoto (Light)
Even in high school classes, there were more opportunities to study and learn about the environment on their own. As we understand various issues, for example, I think there are things we can do, such as reducing food loss. I think that it is important for each of us to work hard to protect the future environment.

Mr. Akira Miyamoto

  • Mayor
It's very encouraging. It's really true, and I think it's very important to change the consciousness of each person and continue to act even small things.

Miyamoto-san and the mayor who talk around the table

  • Mr. Shimura (Ito)
I am also conscious of saving electricity, eliminating food loss, and using bicycles to move. Compared to our childhood, society as a whole is now environmentally friendly. Even a 5-year-old son says, "If the amount of garbage increases, it's not good for the earth." By being aware of such a small time, I think it will be connected 20 or 30 years from now.
  • Mr. Miyamoto (Akira)
Nowadays, it is natural for children to carry their own bags and separate garbage. Even at home, we have lunch boxes and water bottles for families as much as possible. I want to do what consumers can do little by little, such as choosing something that is environmentally friendly when shopping.
  • Mr. Matsumoto
I also reduce, separate, and recycle garbage. Then I grow blueberries and vegetables in the garden. Eat the harvested vegetables, and the grandchild says, "It's delicious if you eat it yourself." Experience is important.

Miyuki Matsumoto

  • Mr. Yasushi Matsumoto
We grow plant seeds and seedlings of commemorative trees distributed at the ward office and distribute them to the neighborhood. The circle of communication is expanding with green hangings.
  • Mayor
Your daily actions, which can be called "environmental actions," are really wonderful. In October 2024, the city of Yokohama will gradually implement measures to reduce greenhouse gases by recycling products made of plastic, such as toothbrushes and straws, which have been treated as burnable garbage.
When citizens purchase energy-saving home appliances such as LED lighting fixtures and refrigerators, we also implemented a campaign called "Eco Hama" to redeem 20% of the purchase price.
Even if each of these environmental actions is small, if all 3.77 million Yokohama citizens work together, I think it will be a great force that will change the world.

"Yokohama Green Expo" created with citizens!

  • Mayor
GREEN × EXPO wants to create a place where people can think about an eco-friendly future life together with everyone and change their consciousness and behavior.
In order to stop climate change, it is necessary to take measures called "decarbonization" that does not emit carbon dioxide and CO2, but I would like to make it a place to show new technologies that make it possible. For example, a new solar cell called "perobskite" from Yokohama has the characteristic of being thin and bent. If you cover a car with this, the gasoline car, which was a symbol of CO2, will not only be able to operate with electricity generated by yourself without emitting CO2, but may also be used as a storage battery in the event of a disaster. Showing this kind of environmentally friendly future, "People's awareness of the environment has changed from Yokohama, GREEN x EXPO in 2027," I would like to create an international exposition together with citizens.
  • Mr. Miyamoto (Akira)
Minato Mirai, which started to move in the wake of the Yokohama Expo in 1989, was completed, and as urban development progressed so far, the Yokohama Green Expo started to think about the environment and coexist with cities and nature. I was very excited to imagine a future that would be a start.

Mr. Miyamoto

  • Mr. Miyamoto (Light)
The whole thing seems to be futuristic and fun. If the building can be made of natural materials such as wood, it will be fashionable and environmentally friendly. I like to take pictures of natural scenery, so I want to take a lot of pictures. I hope that the Yokohama Green Expo will be connected to the future.
  • Mr. Yasushi Matsumoto
Looking at flowers, trees, and greenery can enrich both mind and body, and raising can lead to health promotion. Expectations are growing for projects that will keep the smiles of people in the future.

Mrs. and Mrs. Matsumoto

  • Mr. Matsumoto
After listening to various stories today, I felt again that each of us must face the environment in the future, and I think the Yokohama Green Expo is a good opportunity. I'm looking forward to participating with my family, including the grandchildren.
  • Mr. Shimura (Ito)
Knowing that the theme was "environment", the scale became much larger, and I was more fun. I think that environmental issues can be felt in Goto by being able to feel nature close to life, such as flower beds and forests that are familiar to life. I'm glad to be a Yokohama Green Expo, which is close to the citizens, who makes you want to say, "I'm going to have an exposition locally, so come and play!"

Mr. Shimura

  • Mayor
Thank you, Mr. Miyamoto, Mr. Matsumoto and Mr. Shimura. After listening to your story, I strongly thought again that it was necessary to make an exposition that citizens could be proud of. .
"Yokohama Green Expo" is based on the citizenship of Yokohama. It is only in Yokohama that we can hold an international exposition that may be held once in a lifetime under the theme of "environment." I would like to collect and disseminate the various powers and charms of Yokohama, and make it a place where citizens can be proud even after the exposition is held.
We will be excited to wait for the citizens and make it an exposition where many people from outside the city and from the world can come, so please look forward to it!
