From May to August 2008, we solicited designs and nicknames for mascot characters commemorating the 40th anniversary of the birth of Asahi Ward.
As a result of conducting the first selection and conducting general voting on the ward office, each district center in the ward, and the Internet, Moemi Yamamuro's work was adopted. .
At the opening ceremony of the Asahi Fureai Kumin Festival held on October 26, 2008, a mascot character was announced, and Asahi-kun was born!
The motif is a bright sun, and the hands in the shape of the wings represent hope to fly into the future.
