Eco2 Cities (2009)
Last updated on May 13, 2024.
Yokohama City has been selected as Eco 2 City.
In 2009, the World Bank launched the concept of "Eco2 City Initiative" (Ecological Cities as Economic Cities) to solve urban problems in developing countries.
This is an urban development strategy that aims to create a sustainable city by balancing ecology (environment) and economy (economic), and supports developing countries while systematically incorporating successful examples of Eco2 advanced cities around the world.
Yokohama City has been selected as one of the first six cities as a successful “Eco 2 city”.
In addition to these achievements, there are many companies with excellent environmental technologies in Japan, so the first international conference (Eco2 2010 Yokohama-International Conference on Eco2 Cities) was held in Yokohama in October 2010.
Yokohama City will contribute to international contributions in cooperation with the World Bank, which provides support for developing countries in line with the Yokohama Declaration adopted here, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
