World Smart City Award (2011)

At the Smart City Expo International Conference 2011 held in Barcelona, Spain from November 29 to December 2, 2011, the Yokohama Smart City Project and other initiatives aimed at realizing a low-carbon society were highly evaluated, and Yokohama City was awarded the World Smart City Award City category hosted by the conference.
Overview of Smart City Expo International Conference 2011 (Smart City Expo & World Congress 2011)
More than 200 smart city-related companies and local governments from about 30 countries participated in the international conference and exhibition held in Barcelona, Spain, where electricity liberalization and the mass introduction of renewable energy are progressing, discussions and information exchange were held to build a sustainable society.
Yokohama City was highly evaluated for its efforts in the Yokohama Smart City Project and participated in this international conference in response to an invitation from Barcelona City.
Overview of World Smart City Awards
This award was established to recognize cities, projects and solutions that clearly contribute to the development of the concept of Smart City Expo 2011.
The award was selected by a selection committee composed of external experts, including the World Bank and European International Funds, from more than 100 entries from 19 countries, with three divisions. The city category was Yokohama City, the project category was a traffic management project for public parking lots in Nice, France, and the solution category was a water management system by a private company in Spain.
