In Yokohama City, the following initiatives will be developed during the “Food Loss Reduction Month” in October as an opportunity for citizens to think about food loss and act.

Remarks
burnable garbage from households in Yokohama contains 93,000 tons of food loss per year (estimated in FY2020), which is equivalent to about 25 kilograms per citizen per year. In addition, greenhouse gases generated from the disposal of food contribute to global warming, as well as waste resources such as water and energy consumed during production and distribution.
