Establishment of Election Commission

The Election Commission is an administrative committee established in prefectures and municipalities based on the Local Autonomy Law to ensure fair and proper execution of elections. It is an executive body independent of the mayors and municipalities.

Major duties

●Execution of each election of members of the House of Representatives, members of the House of Councilors, prefectural governors, mayors, prefectural council members, and city council members
●Execution of the National Examination of Judges of the Supreme Court
●Preparation and storage of electoral lists
●Office work related to election enlightenment
●Office work related to direct billing
●Office work related to the selection of prospective judge candidates
●Office work related to the selection of prospective prosecutor judge candidates

The Election Commission is organized with four members elected in Congress.
