Initiatives in cooperation with schools

Last updated on March 6, 2024.

With the opening of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020 Games), Yokohama City has been implementing initiatives in cooperation with schools to further promote sports and increase the momentum of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Even after the end of the Tokyo 2020 Games, we continue to develop businesses for the next generation of children as a legacy of the Games.

School visits by Paralympians, etc.

As one of the businesses where children directly interact with top athletes, we went at municipal elementary and junior high schools from 2014 (junior high schools from 2017).
At the lecture, we convey the joy and splendor of sports that athletes felt through their own experiences, and the importance of a symbiotic society.

JOC Olympic Classes

In Yokohama, a JOC partner city, we conduct JOC Olympic classes in Municipal Junior High School as part of school education to learn the significance of sports as culture and Olympic Movement.
In this classroom, the Olympians serve as lecturers to deepen their understanding of the value of the Olympics (excellence, friendship, respect) through "exercise" and "classroom".

Recommending parasports

In order to promote the spread of para-sports mainly for elementary school students, the contents of the para-sports dissemination enlightenment booklet “Para-sports Recommendation!” For competition groups issued by the Yokohama City and Yokohama City Sports Association were re-edited for elementary school students and published as a pamphlet (August 2021).

In addition, as part of this project, a workshop was held at one Municipal Elementary Schools school to learn about the importance and methods of recycling.
