Overview of Road Private Use

What is road occupation?
A specific person establishes a certain structure, property or facility on the road and uses the road continuously.
In that case, permission from the road manager is required (Article 32 of the Road Law). In addition, there are permission conditions according to each property, and you will have to pay the private use fee depending on the type and size of the property to be occupied.

Major private property
- Electric poles
- Water pipes
- Sewer pipes
- Gas tubes
- Protruding signboard
- Scaffolding for construction
- Temporary enclosures, etc.
The following cannot be occupied.
- A signboard
- Standing signs
- Vending machines, etc.
What is the amount of the private use fee?
- According to Article 39-2 of the Road Law, it is stipulated in the Yokohama City Road Private Use Charge Ordinance.
- Please contact Public Works Office for details as it depends on the property you occupy.

- Structure of the property (floor plan, three-dimensional plan, quadrature plan)
With permission
- We issue road private use permission application, delivery letter of advice (paid at banks, etc.).
- The private use period is up to 5 years. When the period expires, an application for renewal of private use is required.
How to apply for private use?
- If there is a change, you need to apply for a change.
- When it is abolished, a notification of abolition is required.
