Review of Midori Library's targets for FY2020
The [Efforts] of this goal were formulated at the beginning of FY2020. Although there were changes or cancellations of planned initiatives due to the influence of COVID-19 infection, we worked flexibly while incorporating new lifestyles. Looking back on the [results and issues] of each initiative, the whole is summarized in the “Comprehensive Comments” at the end of the book.
1 Libraries that are easy for everyone to use
Implementation of planning and events to enhance the image of the library and promote use
Efforts
- Midori Library will celebrate its 25th anniversary in May, and will carry out commemorative projects in cooperation with the ward and local communities to enhance the image of the library and promote reading activities.
- Held an exhibition of local photographs collected in cooperation with Midori Ward (scheduled for May)
- Production of entrance monuments with the cooperation of Yokohama Sou Masaru Hanabusa Manabu (scheduled for May)
- Local lectures by local historians (scheduled for October)
- Held a lecture on promoting reading activities in collaboration with Midori Ward (scheduled for November)
- Library decoration by Yokohama Sou Masaru Hanabusa Manabu and cut-out workshop (scheduled for November)
- We will introduce Midori Ward's book-reading activities promotion project and Midori Library in the special feature of the Yokohama Midori Ward edition (scheduled for August).
- In order to make it easier to use the library with a familiarity, we will hold a "co-reading course" that connects people and books by sharing the fun and excitement obtained through reading with others, and promote group lending (February Scheduled).
Results and Challenges
- During the 25th anniversary of the museum's opening, the cut-out workshop was canceled, but an exhibition of local photographs in collaboration with Midori Ward was held in October, and the entrance monument was produced in a remote class at Sou Masaru Hanabusa, Yokohama.
- The book-reading activity promotion lecture in collaboration with Midori Ward was open online from December to March, and was able to disseminate information not only to residents but also to many people about reading enjoyment and reading activities. As a result, we received a great response, such as being featured in various media. A local lecture by a local historian was held on March 13, adding a tour of historic sites, and was able to convey the history and charm of the region. . In the March issue of the Yokohama Midori Ward Public Relations, we organized a special feature on Midori Ward's reading activities and Midori Library to introduce Midori Ward's reading activities and information onMidori Library's usage.
- The "Co-reading Course" has been canceled. For fiscal 2021, we will consider ways to enjoy reading and promote group lending in cooperation with Tokaichiba Community Care Plaza.
Enhancement of library services that are easy for everyone to use
Efforts
- In cooperation with Midori Ward, we will enhance the number of titles of CD books (literature reading CDs) for listening and reading (scheduled for May).
- We will supplement Japanese language learning materials and materials useful for introducing Japanese culture (15 books a year).
Results and Challenges
- The number of CD books has been increased by 20 titles (works) to enhance the number of collections (126 titles in total).
- We collected 20 Japanese language learning materials and materials that introduce Japanese culture in both English and English. Not only foreigners but also Japanese people who teach Japanese have used it, which helped solve problems.
Promotion of Human Resource Development
Efforts
- Utilize morning meetings to share reference examples and improve your work skills. Shared cases are registered in the Yokohama City Library Reference Shared Database (20 annual registration targets).
- Utilize training opportunities outside the museum to improve the skills of each librarian (participation at least once per person).
Results and Challenges
- We shared reference examples about twice a month using morning meetings. In addition, 23 reference cases were registered in the Yokohama City Library Reference Share Database, which helped to share information and improve skills among staff.
- Focusing on e-learning on the Internet, in addition to specialized training for librarians, we also worked on training to deepen our knowledge as a public servant, such as legal affairs and civil society insurance.
Promotion of reading activities in cooperation with local communities
Efforts
- We promote reading activity by collaboration, cooperation with area and related facilities.
- Age-specific talks (39 times a year)
- In cooperation with the local child care support base "Ippo", the "13th Green Story Festa" was held (scheduled from May to June).
- Participated in "Midorikko Festival" in cooperation with nursery schools in Midori Ward Children and Families Support Division and Midori Ward (scheduled for November).
- We will hold a training course for story-telling volunteers (scheduled for September).
Results and Challenges
- The 13th Green Story Festa and Midorikko Festival were canceled, but the age-specific talks resumed in July, and until October, the training room at Ippo, a local child-rearing support base, returned to the Midori Library conference room (26 times). There were no participants and we could not hold the event, but we will continue to devise it in FY2021.
- The story-telling volunteer training course was postponed, but in collaboration with story-telling volunteers, a story-telling party for adults was held on January 21 to convey interest and enjoyment in story-telling. Was. In the future, the challenge is to secure a place for volunteer activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2 Support for the establishment of children's reading habits
Promotion of reading activities at home
Efforts
- Supports the creation of opportunities to get acquainted with books at home from infancy.
- Rental of baby picture book sets (800 sets per year)
- Age-specific talks (39 times a year) (republished)
- Distribution of a book list of "Baby Picture Book Set" at Midori Ward Infant Health Checkup (monthly by age)
- Distribution of leaflets from the age of 0 to the library for Midori Ward immigrants (4,000 copies per year)
- Held talks at Tokaichiba Nursery School (10 times a year)
- A special counter will be set up during the summer vacation to support research and study at elementary school student (scheduled for July to August).
Results and Challenges
- Support for creating opportunities to get acquainted with books at home from infancy
Through lending picture book sets, holding talks, and distributing various book lists, we provided useful information for reading at home and called on Midori Ward immigrants to visit the library.
- We resumed lending of baby picture book sets in June, and rented 685 sets (including lending at district centers).
- Age-specific talks resumed in July and held in the training room at Ippo, a local child-rearing support base until October, in a conference room in Midori Library in November (26 times). (Reposted)
- We distributed a book list of "Baby Picture Book Set" at the Midori Ward Infant Health Examination (reopened in July, 54 times).
- We distributed handouts from the age of 0 to the library to Midori Ward immigrants (2,900 copies). It will not be held in June and July.
- The talk session at Tokaichiba Nursery School has been cancelled.
- In August, we set up a special counter (reference tower) in elementary school student to provide elementary and junior high school students with reading consultation and learning support.
Cooperation in school education and support for the enhancement of school libraries
Efforts
- Cooperate in the practice of career education at junior high and high schools (seven times a year).
- Accepting junior high school student work experience
- Acceptance of high school student internships
- We cooperate and support classes utilizing books in elementary and junior high schools.
- Promotion of faculty and staff references (54 times a year)
Promotion of loans to faculty and staff (4,500 books per year)
- We support story-telling activities and book repair activities through exchange meetings with school volunteers who support school reading activities (scheduled for February).
Results and Challenges
- Both junior high school student's work experience and high school student internships have been canceled, but in February we will hold a book exhibition presentation and presentation according to the theme created in the work experience in FY2019 to inform the results of the business, Introduced materials and loaned. In addition, we received a question about the librarian's work from a junior high school where vocational lectures were canceled and responded in writing.
- We received and responded to faculty and staff references 60 times. After the school reopening in June, 3,500 books were lent to faculty and staff, and support classes were provided.
- The exchange meeting with school volunteers was postponed, but the introduction of a new picture book held every year at the exchange meeting was held in March as a material exhibition. After the school reopened, teachers and volunteers received three consultations on how to read aloud.
Promotion of reading activities for the teens generation
Efforts
- We will conduct a library volunteer experience for junior and senior high school students to promote interest in the teens library and reading (scheduled for August).
- We will create an introduction POP of recommended books for work experience, etc., and hold exhibitions of deliverables (10 times a year).
Results and Challenges
- A junior and senior high school volunteer experience was held on August 5 in the morning and afternoon, with a total of five participants. . We learned the structure of the book by making bean books, and created headlines for bookshelves. In order to encourage teenagers to use the library, the program will continue to be implemented in FY2021.
- Both junior high school student's work experience and high school student internships have been canceled, but in February we will hold a book exhibition presentation and presentation according to the theme created in the work experience in FY2019 to inform the results of the business, Introduced materials and loaned. Also, in January, we held an exhibition at all seven Municipal Junior High School schools in Midori Ward and presented works by junior high school students at the library and received many praise from visitors.
Support for reading activities in the community
Efforts
- We support local reading-related facilities such as district centers and community houses (twice a year, including bookcase management consultation).
- At the "Mini Picture Book Plaza" held at the ward office, we support the activities of local reading groups, such as introduction of picture books and panel displays (scheduled for May).
- We will hold a talk session for adults in collaboration with talk volunteers (scheduled for December).
- In cooperation with ward office, we perform PR of town library in ward.
Results and Challenges
- We visited the Hakusan District Center in August, Shiroyama High School in September, and Tana Junior High School in February to discuss how to manage bookshelves, select books, and control infectious diseases.
- “Mini Picture Book Hiroba” was canceled, but in March we held an exhibition at the Midori Ward Office to introduce our efforts to promote reading activities.
- A talk party for adults was held on January 21 in collaboration with talk volunteers, with 14 participants. At the same time, it was also useful for the training of staff and volunteers.
- We could not carry out business to publicize town library, but, as support of town library, meeting to have you use book of reuse library gathered in library for town library operator in ward in November "Distribution of library book".
3 Enhancement of collections and references
Enhance collection as a regional information base
Efforts
- Collect materials that are useful for solving citizens' issues and reading activities. In particular, we will focus on collecting materials such as sports that are useful for social activities (20 books a year).
- We collect local materials vigorously, organize and preserve them so that they can be easily used as local information bases, and pass them on to future generations (50 books a year).
- In order to support elementary school student's research and study, we will work to update picture books and dictionaries (110 books a year).
Results and Challenges
- We collected sports-related materials and helped solve citizens' issues and support team activities for teens (33 books).
- We actively collected local materials related to the Midori Ward, organized bookshelves, and strengthened the functions of local information bases (60 books).
- In addition to picture books and dictionaries, in light of the characteristics of Midori Ward, which has the highest green coverage in the city, we also paid attention to environmental issues and SDGs related to greening, and worked to collect and update materials to help study and learn children's books (151 books).
Management and preservation of materials
Efforts
- In order to make it easier to understand and select materials, we will improve the display of the elementary school student room.
- In cooperation with book repair volunteers, we strive to repair books and maintain the quality of materials (800 books a year).
Results and Challenges
- We have created an illustration of a Midori Library character to the classification of books in the Children's Library so that children can easily understand the location of books and find materials with familiarity.
- Volunteer volunteers carried out repair activities while limiting the day of book repair activities (total of 175 active people, 442 repaired books).
Enhancement of references
Efforts
- In order to support research and learning in elementary school student, we will set up a special counter for research during the summer vacation (scheduled from July to August, republished).
- At the "Midori Story Festa", we will hold a picture book consultation and disseminate the reference service of the library (scheduled for May).
Results and Challenges
- In August, we set up a special counter (reference tower) in elementary school student to provide elementary and junior high school students with reading consultation and learning support. (Reposted)

Utilization of Materials and Information Dissemination
Efforts
- We will exhibit and give lectures on local materials held by the library (scheduled for October).
- We will hold an exhibition to introduce the initiatives of Yokohama City together with library materials (five times a year).
- We will post an introduction article of recommended picture books in the mini comic magazine and widely disseminate information on picture books (seven times a year).
- On the homepage "Bookshelf of this month", we will introduce new recommended books to stimulate reading motivation and interest (updated every month).
Results and Challenges
- A lecture on the local area and a walk party were held on March 13. In conjunction with this project, with the cooperation of Neighborhood Association, a diorama mimicking the old appearance of the town was exhibited at the entrance hall to widely introduce the history of the region to visitors.
- Civic Affairs Bureau and LGBT (December), Policy Bureau and University (January), Water Works Bureau and Water Works (January), Midori fire department and Fire Department (February), exhibited panels and materials, and exhibited and borrowed materials.
- We published an introduction article of picture books that parents and children can enjoy reading in a local mini comic magazine, publicized picture book sets and disseminated information about picture books (10 times).
- On the homepage "Bookshelf of this month", we introduced four new books each month and provided information on books (48 books).
4 Midori Library's own goals
Efforts
- In cooperation with Midori Ward Children and Families Support Division, we offer book repair and picture book reading courses to nursery teachers and staff at childcare and educational facilities (four times a year).
- By transmitting the appeal of the library through planning projects in cooperation with neighboring public facilities, it will lead to an increase in users.
- Held “Halloween Day” in cooperation with district centers and child-rearing support facilities in the Tokaichiba area (scheduled for October).
- In collaboration with community care plazas, welfare centers for the elderly, and child care support bases, we hold a "Christmas party" where infants and the elderly meet together (scheduled for December).
- Taking advantage of the characteristics of a complex with a community care plaza and a welfare center for the elderly, the Bazaar Festa picture story show Tournament was held in collaboration with local community groups (scheduled for February).
- In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we will strive to supplement children's books with awareness of education for sustainable development (ESD).
- In light of the characteristics of the ward with the highest green coverage, strengthen the collection of materials on the theme of "environmental issues" that lead to the maintenance of green spaces, and implement a planning project utilizing the collected materials (scheduled for July).
Results and Challenges
- Courses for childcare facility staff in cooperation with Midori Ward Children and Families Support Division have been canceled.
- All planning projects in cooperation with neighboring public facilities have been canceled, but we will continue to cooperate with each other to consider the timing of the event.
- In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we worked to collect children's books with awareness of education for sustainable development (ESD).
- In light of the characteristics of Midori Ward, which has the highest green coverage in the city, we also paid attention to environmental issues and SDGs related to greening, and worked to collect and update materials to support learning of children's books (151 books). Measures against infectious diseases at facilities, etc.
- Alcohol disinfection of equipment in the building and search machines

- Registered with the LINE Corona Notification System in Kanagawa Prefecture and posted an infection prevention countermeasure report.
General Comments
In fiscal 2020, Midori Library was able to promote its business in cooperation with volunteers, ward offices, citizen facilities and universities. Thanks to everyone, Midori Library was able to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The commemorative lecture in collaboration with Midori Ward was changed to an online lecture, but many people watched it and achieved great results.
On the other hand, in order to prevent the expansion of COVID-19 infection and repair work on air conditioning equipment, we caused concern and inconvenience to all of you, including the closure of facilities and limited service.
Going forward, we will further enhance the network and cooperation system with ward offices, facilities and organizations, and work on library management rooted in the community.
