Why is it September tenth?

Because there are many typhoons. In addition, September 10 is the 220th counted from the beginning of spring, and it is called "Nyaku Hatsukaichi". With the aim of eliminating rainwater, which is one of the major roles of the sewer, it was decided to be September 10 after the typhoon season, 220 days.

When did you start?

This is from 2001. Originally, the Ministry of Construction (currently the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) and the Ministry of Health and Welfare (currently the Ministry of the Environment), which had jurisdiction over sewerage at the time in 1961, in order to promote the sewerage spread of Japan, which was significantly delayed (currently changed to the Ministry of the Environment) and the predecessor organization of the Japan Sewerage Association established the Japan Sewerage Promotion Association. Later, in 2001, the 100th anniversary of the enactment of the old Sewerage Law, the name was changed to the current "Sewerage Day".
