To everyone who transfers and sells seeds (displays of registered varieties)

Last updated on June 22, 2021.

Display of registered varieties

Due to the revision of the Seed and Seed Law, from April 1, 2021, it has become mandatory to attach the following indications when transferring seeds of registered varieties as a business or when advertising for sale.
Please confirm the details about revision of seed and seedling law and contents on web page (outside site) of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

※General varieties are native species, varieties that have never been registered, and varieties whose varieties have expired.
※Violators may be fined up to 100,000 yen.

Indication of duty to be a registered variety

At the time of transfer (sale) of a seedling, one of the indications 1 to 3 must be attached to the seedling or the seedling packaging. There is no way to post them together at the store.

  1. Character of "Registered Varieties"
  2. The word "variety registration" and the number of its variety registration
  3. PVP mark

※The obligation to use the registered breed name when transferring (selling) a registered breed (including registered breeds in the past) remains unchanged.

Obligation labeling restrictions on export restrictions and restrictions on domestic cultivation areas

If the breeder gives usage conditions such as prohibition of taking out overseas or restrictions on domestic cultivation areas, it is necessary to display the conditions along with the indication that it is a registered breed.
※Please check with the developer's authority in advance for the usage conditions to be displayed.

Seed and packaging at the time of sale, and labeling obligations when advertising for sale

Appropriate labeling of required items is mandatory not only at the time of transfer of seeds and seedlings, but also at the time of selling over-the-counter sales, as well as ordering slips that also serve as catalogs and catalogs of seeds and seedlings.
