Overview of the Kosuzume Purifiction Plant Facility
Kosuzume Purifiction Plant Kosuzume Recreation Plant
Kosuzume Purifiction Plant uses the Sagami River, which runs through the center of Kanagawa Prefecture. Construction was completed in 1965 as co-operated facility in Yokohama City (water supply and industrial water supply) and Yokosuka City, and after two expansion work, the current processing capacity is 820,000 cubic meters per day (about 2.5 cups of Yokohama Stadium). The purified water is supplied mainly to the southern areas of Konan Ward, Asahi Ward, Isogo Ward, Kanazawa Ward, Kohoku Ward, Totsuka Ward, Sakae Ward and Izumi Ward in Yokohama, and also to Yokosuka. It is responsible for about one-third of Yokohama City as a whole and about one-half of Yokosuka City as a whole.

1 Central Management Office
It is the heart of the water purification plant and operates and monitors all facilities 24 hours a day.
2 Pumping Pump
Incorporated from the Sagami River, the water (raw water) arriving at a point 40 meters underground is assembled on the ground.
3 Arriving Mizui
The amount of raw water pumped by the pump is adjusted here and sent to the sinking pond.
4 Sinking Pond
Inject a flocculant (polyaluminum chloride) into the raw water. Floating objects become large lumps (flocks) and sink. Photovoltaic panels prevent the growth of algae and at the same time make effective use of electricity.
5 filtration pond
Small suspended matter that was not removed in the sedimentation basin is removed through layers of sand and gravel. Photovoltaic power generation is performed using a cover to prevent foreign material contamination.
6 Reservoir (No. 2)
In a warehouse that stores tap water, the amount of water is adjusted according to the amount of water used and distributed to homes, schools, factories, etc. The upper part is used by citizens as a sports park.
7 Reservoir (No. 6)
It is a cylindrical ground reservoir. In addition to water supply to the city, it is also used for washing water for filtration ponds.
8 Water quality instruments
In order to always send safe water, we constantly monitor the quality of the finished water (purified water) from raw water.
9 Drainage Pond
The impurities removed from the sinking pond and the filtration pond are concentrated here, then sent to Sewerage and Rivers Bureau Nambu Sewerage Center for processing.
10 Hybrid Outer Lights
We have installed three external lights that turn on only electricity generated by solar and wind power. This is one of the measures to reduce environmental impact.
11 Electric cart
If you are worried about walking around a large area, we will guide you with an electric cart that does not disturb the environment.
12 Fresh drinking fountain
We have set up a drinking fountain so that visitors to the water purification plant can drink the freshly made water.
