How to separate and dispose of garbage and recyclables

Home disposal procedures

  • Please put it out at the collection point by 8:00 a.m. on the day of collection. Do not put it out the night before or after collection.
  • burnable garbage, non-burnable garbage (glass, pottery, fluorescent lamp, light bulbs), spray cans, batteries, plastic resources, cans, bottles, plastic bottles, and small metals.
  • Please put it in a translucent bag for each item.
  • Garbage that has not been sorted or garbage that has been incorrectly collected on the day of collection cannot be collected. A sticker for enlightenment is attached and left. Citizens and businesses that do not separate even after repeated guidance may be fined. .

Oversized disposal procedures

We cannot accept applications for oversized garbage even if you call the ward office or collection office.

Special disposal procedures

How to put out household appliances such as TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, etc.

TVs, air conditioners, washing machines / clothes dryers, refrigerators / freezers cannot be collected as oversized garbage.
Based on the Home Appliance Recycling Law, home appliance retailers collect it, and home appliance manufacturers recycle it.
If it is no longer needed, ask the retailer who purchased the product or the newly purchased retailer to collect it and dispose of it. (Paid)

Collection of small household appliances

Yokohama City collects and recycles small household appliances such as mobile phones, digital cameras, and laptop computers for the purpose of making effective use of resources. Please put it in the pink collection box at the next installation location.

  • Items that have been put into the collection box cannot be returned.
  • For products containing personal information, please delete personal information before putting it in the collection box.
  • Remove batteries, light bulbs and fluorescent lamp before putting them in the collection box.
  • Items that do not completely fit in the collection box cannot be collected.

Target Small Home Appliances

Products that operate with electricity and batteries less than 30 cm in length that enter the input port of the collection box
Mobile phones, digital cameras, game consoles, laptops, personal computer peripherals, codes, etc.


Collection of rechargeable batteries (lithium batteries, etc.)

Do not mix electronic devices including lithium-ion batteries, such as mobile batteries, heated cigarettes, and electronic batteries, with plastic resources or non-burnable garbage. This may cause fire problems at recycling plants.
Please put the rechargeable batteries in the yellow cans and rechargeable battery recycling boxes at the following locations.

  • Products with built-in batteries can be put out as small home appliances even if the batteries cannot be removed.

Prohibition of illegal dumping

Illegal dumping is prohibited by the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law, and violations will result in imprisonment for up to 5 years or a fine of up to 10 million yen.
It is also a crime to leave products subject to oversized garbage and home appliance recycling at collection sites. Please follow the rules and dispose of it.

If you see illegal dumping

In the event of illegal dumping on private land, the owner / manager of the land / building will respond. If there is any damage caused by illegal dumping, please consult your nearest police department.
Regarding illegal dumping on public roads, etc., please contact us as it will be handled by the ward Public Works Office, the administrator.

Community cleaning

We distribute garbage bags for community cleaning used in Neighborhood Association and Neighborhood Associations. If necessary, please contact Regional Promotion Division Resources Reuse Promotion.
If a large amount of garbage is generated during community cleaning, please contact the Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau Sakae Office (891-9200) before discharging.
