[Interview] We asked about your thoughts on the "Kami Seya Elementary School Regional Flower Festival"
At elementary and junior high schools in Seya Ward, various efforts are being made to foster momentum for elementary school studenｔ students and local communities surrounding the school in preparation for the GREEN x EXPO 2027. From these efforts, we interviewed Keiko Kobayashi, principal of Kami Seya Elementary School, Yokohama City, about the "Flower Festival" held at Kami Seya Elementary School on November 25, 2023.

Please tell us how the Flower Festival was held.

In the past, the courtyard of Kamiseya Elementary School was a "place that can only be entered with teachers" during science experiments. . However, in response to the desire of last year's sixth grader (now a first-year junior high school student) to make the courtyard a more wonderful place, I decided to maintain the courtyard and then participate in the open garden, an initiative of Seya Ward.
The current sixth grader took over it and worked on the care of the courtyard and watering in the summer for the open garden held in May.
In addition, even after the open garden, we challenged dry flowers to preserve the beauty of summer flowers, and participated in the “Yokohama Rose Festival” held at other schools at the venue, and what kind of things are the visitors We have been working on it, such as researching whether it leads to joy.
After that, among the 6th grade children, the desire to convey more the charm and beauty of Kamiseya small flowers increased, and the school's unique sixth grader aimed at all elementary school studenｔ and local communities planned this flower festival.
How was elementary school studenｔ in preparation for the Flower Festival?
The children learned that it is important to advertise themselves in order to have many customers come through the spring open garden.
Therefore, for the Flower Festival in November, various ideas came out from the elementary school studenｔ and others, such as "I want to put an invitation on the school homepage," "I want to make a letter to parents," "I want to put posters on local bulletin boards," and "I want to invite customers such as Mayor Yokohama who came to school."
In addition, feeling the enthusiasm of the children, the local people took it up on the homepage of the Federation of Seya Northern Towns. At the Shine Festival held in front of Seya Station, elementary school studenｔ conducted PR activities.
As a result, more than 150 customers came on the day. Through this, I think elementary school studenｔ's sense of self-usefulness has increased.
What are your thoughts on GREEN x EXPO 2027?
Actually, I have been teaching at three elementary schools in Seya Ward for 19 years. This nature-rich area of Kamiseya is a place where children at that time have grown up at ease. About 10 years after the land of Kamiseya was returned, at that time, I thought together with the children I took about how to use the land of Kamiseya during social studies. For children, it is "my town, hometown."
GREEN x EXPO 2027 and subsequent stories are future stories, and what will be done will be clarified in the future. At this time when a big event will be held in our proud city, I hope that elementary school studenｔ and others will enjoy it much if the children of elementary school as elementary school studenｔ will turn into a better place.
For events that lead to GREEN × EXPO 2027, such as cherry blossom grafting events at elementary schools, open gardens and other activities conducted by the City of Yokohama and Seya Ward, as well as a painting contest organized by the Yokohama Hana Expo Liaison Council, we hope to create opportunities for the elementary school studenｔ and others to think about the future of the city.
