Transfer and enrollment procedures for elementary and junior high schools

Procedures for moving
When the school district (school) changes due to moving within the ward
- You will be notified of your transfer to the school you are currently attending and receive a certificate of salary for books in student registration certificate. Please contact the new school in advance by telephone. (in preparation for acceptance)
- After moving, I will notify the Kanagawa Ward Office of the change of Address. Please present your student registration certificate Textbook Salary Certificate.
- You will receive a letter of admission from the ward office.
- Bring your student registration certificate, Textbook Salary Certificate and Admission Notice to the new school and complete the enrollment procedure.
※ If you move during the spring break, you will need to show a certificate of completion (such as a notice sheet that shows that you have completed the third semester) or diploma in addition to the above two points.
When the school district changes due to moving from Kanagawa Ward to another ward in the city
- You will be notified of your transfer to the school you are currently attending and receive a certificate of salary for books in student registration certificate. Please contact the new school in advance by telephone. (in preparation for acceptance)
- Please present your student registration certificate Textbook Salary Certificate when you notify the ward office in New Address of the change of Address (no need to come to Kanagawa Ward).
- You will receive a letter of admission from the ward office.
- Bring your student registration certificate, Textbook Salary Certificate and Admission Notice to the new school and complete the enrollment procedure.

In the case of moving out of Yokohama city or moving from outside the city
- You will be notified of your transfer to the school you are currently attending and receive a certificate of salary for books in student registration certificate. Please contact the new school in advance by telephone. (in preparation for acceptance)
- Please notify the government office in your Address area of your transfer and receive a transfer certificate. There is no school procedure at the government office in Address where you move out.
After moving, you will be notified of the transfer at the municipalities in the new Address area. At that time, please show your transference certificate and student registration certificate / textbook salary certificate. - If you have been transferred, please bring your Basic Resident Register card.
Depending on the municipality, school-related procedures may be carried out to the Board of Education. Please check with the New Address office for details such as the reception desk. (In the case of Yokohama City, it will be done at the ward office Family Registry Division.) - You will receive a letter of admission at the new Address office.
- Bring your student registration certificate, Textbook Salary Certificate and Admission Notice to the new school and complete the enrollment procedure.
If you want to continue to go to the same school even if the school district changes, or if you want to go to a school different from the designated school
A separate procedure is required. For more information, please contact Family Registry Division Student Affairs Section.
When enrolling in national, private, or prefectural elementary and junior high schools
You need to submit an out-of-area study report.
Please bring the letter of consent issued by the principal of the school you are enrolling in. (The notification form is available at the counter.)
In the case of new first-year students (notification by mail is possible)
elementary school student students who have registered as residents in Kanagawa Ward are enrolled in private, national and prefectural elementary and junior high schools.
(International schools and various schools are not eligible.)

(Please describe all required items. Phone number must be sure to include a number that can be reached during the day. If you have any questions, we may contact you.
・Original documents such as admission permits issued by the school you plan to attend, indicating that you will be admitted (not a letter of acceptance)
Please enclose the above two documents and send them to Kanagawa Ward Office Family Registry Division Registration Section by simple registered mail or special record.

Transfer from other than Kanagawa Ward
Please notify us at the time of the transfer of Address.
At that time, please bring proof that you are enrolled in a national, private, or prefectural elementary or junior high school (enrollment consent form, copy of student handbook, etc.).
Notification of attendance at school
Admission to elementary school
We will send admission to municipal school to parents around October 15 of the previous year. The notice contains the date and time of your school, physical checkup. Elementary school will inform you about the admission briefing at physical checkup.
Admission to junior high school
I will send admission to municipal school to parents around January 20 of that year (6th grade elementary school student). There will be a notice from the elementary school where your child is enrolled about the admission briefing.
