Hongakuji Temple

Last updated on March 12, 2021.

It's a good thing

At the time of the opening of the port, this Honkaku-ji Temple was dedicated to the American Consulate. It is said that Door, who was a consul of Kanagawa, wiped off the pine branches in the garden and raised a star flag on this tree. It is said that he covered the temple's main deity with a board circumference, painted the mountain gate with white paint, and prohibited ordinary people from entering.
In 1858 (1858), a stone monument commemorating Tadanari Iwase, a full authority member who negotiated with the U.S. minister Harris has been built on the grounds when the US-Japan Osamu Trade Treaty was concluded. (Pamphlet on the History of Kanagawajuku
