What is COVID-19 infection?
It is a disease caused by infection with COVID-19.
In addition to sore throat, runny nose and nasal congestion, systemic symptoms such as malaise, fever, and muscle pain often appear, but some people are asymptomatic.
In Japan, patients have been reported throughout the year since January 2020.
The disease may be severe in the elderly, those with underlying diseases such as chronic respiratory disease (COPD), diabetes, those in the latter half of pregnancy, and children under 2 years of age and with underlying diseases.
Main symptoms
- Sore throat, cough, runny nose and stuffy nose
- Systemic symptoms such as malaise, fever, and muscle pain
Symptoms often relieve naturally within a week, but the symptoms may last for a long time (after illness).
Period until symptoms appear
When infected, symptoms such as sore throat, cough, runny nose and runny nose often appear 1 to 7 days later.
Route of infection

Preserving antigen test kits and antipyretic analgesics
Have an antigen test kit at home and use it when you have symptoms.
Also, if the symptoms are mild, you can recuperate at home, so be sure to have antipyretic analgesics.
Antigen test kit
If symptoms such as fever appear, do a self-test with an antigen test kit.
For antigen test kits, select "prescription drugs" and "over-the-counter drugs (OTC)" approved by the government.

Points to note in the life of a person with symptoms
There are no restrictions on employment or daily life behavior when infected under the Infectious Diseases Law.
- During the period when it is recommended to refrain from going out, especially for 5 days after onset, there is a high risk of infecting others, so refrain from going out for 5 days with the onset date as 0 days. If you have symptoms on the 5th day, refrain from going out until the symptoms have been relieved and about 24 hours have passed.
- It is said that it may infect other people from 2 days before onset to 5 to 10 days after onset. Be careful not to move around, such as wearing a nonwoven fabric mask or refraining from contacting people at high risk of becoming severe, such as the elderly.
