Looking back on the goals of the Kanazawa Library in FY2019

This year, the Kanazawa Library will focus on the following goals. This goal is based on the Yokohama City Library Action Plan (second phase).

Basic Goal: Local information bases that support citizens' reading activities

Priority item 1 Library that supports citizen's reading activities

Promotion of reading activities according to regional characteristics

Specific initiatives
  1. Dissemination of distinctive initiatives at reading-related facilities in the ward during the Kanazawa Ward Reading Festival (mid-October to mid-December).
  2. Implementation of special exhibitions, lectures, lectures, etc. in cooperation with universities and research institutions in the city.
Results and Challenges
  1. Distribution of 1,500 leaflets for the Reading Festival (October 19 to December 15) (also posted on the website). We were able to disseminate information on unique approaches at reading-related facilities (23 facilities) in the city.
  2. Collaboration with 2 universities (Yokohama City University, Kanto Gakuin University) and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. A "planned exhibition" was held at the Kanazawa Library, and a "library tour" was held at each partner the following month, and repeaters have taken root.

Support for reading activities at home

Specific initiatives
  1. Conducting talk sessions for infants, parents, elementary school students, etc.
  2. Holding children's song courses for child-rearing supporters and parents.
Results and Challenges
  1. A total of 28 talks were held (22 regular meetings, 3 special spring meetings, 1 scary talks, 1 picture story show, and 1 disaster prevention talks). By continuing in the future, it is expected that the use of young people will expand.
  2. Kanazawa Sakura Nursery School Business Trip Lecture (July 2), Parent and Child Gathering Plaza "Mamanowa" (September 27), Prefectural Kanazawa School for the Handicapped (September 20), support base "Tokoko"・ How to select the first book co-hosted by Nokendai Community Care Plaza (October 24) was implemented. Each approach has become a major approach to child care supporters and parents, and it is important to continue in the future.

Support for schools and cooperation in school education

Specific initiatives
  1. Enhance support such as references for faculty and staff (including school librarians).
  2. Holding lectures and exchange meetings for school volunteers and parents.
Results and Challenges
  1. 41 references, 151 loans, 2,250 loans

In addition to providing information on books useful for classes and providing daily individual consultations, we worked to improve individual skills through school librarian training (June 20). In the future, further cooperation will be required.

  1. School volunteer courses (book repair (June 27), picture book reading (June 28), Rokuura Junior High School District Reading Course (July 5), Koda Elementary School Reading Course (September 25), Nomi Tainan Elementary School Reading Course (October 1) and Rokuura Minami Elementary School Reading Course (February 6). It helped create opportunities for school volunteers and parents who support reading activities and improve their skills. In the future, it will be necessary to devise ways to further expand such initiatives.

Support for local reading activities

Specific initiatives
  1. Conducted reading guidance at infant health checkups in cooperation with Health and Welfare Center.
  2. Support for reading activities such as how to select picture books in cooperation with child care support bases and information on library use at public and private joint nursery directors' associations.
  3. In cooperation with the Kanazawa International Lounge, multilingual talks are held.
Results and Challenges
  1. Conducted 24 reading guidance at the infant health checkup site (twice a month 2nd and 4th Tuesday). It is an initiative to widely convey the importance and significance of getting acquainted with books.
  2. Information on library use at public and private joint nursery school directors' association (October 10). In addition, how to select the first book co-hosted by the support base "Tokoko" and Nokendai Community Care Plaza (October 24) was implemented. It has led to the improvement of skills for parents with children from infancy to school age and those who are engaged in child care support activities.
  3. A multilingual storytelling party (November 24) in cooperation with the Kanazawa International Lounge was held, with 50 participants. We also used foreign language picture books in the library to read stories and display books that introduce the culture of each country, which led to the introduction of library materials, which provided an opportunity to expand multicultural understanding. There is little participation of children, and it is necessary to consider the distribution destination of flyers in the future.

Priority item 2 Library as a regional information base

Collection of materials useful for solving citizens' issues and reading activities

Specific initiatives
  1. Enhanced materials from the local Kanazawa, including the corner related to Kanazawa Ward.
  2. Promote the acceptance of donated materials, etc. by publicizing on our website.
Results and Challenges
  1. We were able to collect a wide range of materials from the local Kanazawa, such as Shintaro Ohashi-related company history (116 books). We will continue to strive to enhance local materials rooted in local history.
  2. Acceptance of donated materials etc. progressed smoothly, and 3,249 books were accepted. I think the Yokohama 3R dream has penetrated the citizens.

Support for citizens' learning activities and problem solving

Specific initiatives
  1. Holding lectures and lectures to support citizens' learning activities and problem solving.
  2. Exhibitions in cooperation with other bureaus and related facilities in the ward.
Results and Challenges
  1. Lecture on "Yokohama Naval Air Corps" (July 7), individual consultation to work (June 27, October 24, February 27), storytelling fun party (October 31), fraud Tip course (December 1), first book repair (February 20), etc. All of them are contents to support citizens' learning activities and problem solving, and will continue to hold voluntary planning projects tailored to local issues and needs.
  2. Environmental Planning Bureau (Biodiversity) (June), Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (July), Yokohama City University (August), and Kanto Gakuin University (October). We were able to provide information in cooperation with other bureaus and related facilities in the ward.

Priority items 3 Libraries that are easy for everyone to use

Library management reflecting the opinions of citizens

Specific initiatives
  1. Hold round-table conferences with library-related organizations and facilities.
  2. Hold exchange meetings with volunteers to repair books and organize bookshelfs.
Results and Challenges
  1. The Kanazawa Library round-table conference was scheduled for March 24 with 13 library officials, but was canceled to prevent the expansion of COVID-19 infection.
  2. We planned book repair volunteer round-table conference (March 12) and bookshelf rearranging volunteer round-table conference (March 16), but canceled it to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection.

Preparation for the 40th anniversary of Kanazawa Library on May 15, 2020.

Results and Challenges

In addition to planning the contents of the 40th anniversary of the museum's opening, as a pre-plan for the 40th anniversary of the museum's opening, participating in the Kanazawa Library booth at the inhabitant of a ward festival (Ikiiki Festa) (October 20), a collaborative project with junior high school “POP” exhibition (January 15-January 31), the 40th anniversary “Ridokun Nuri 2” using characters from Kanazawa Library characters will be held on March 2” (March 2” (March 3) using Kanazawa Library.
