We have established a new fishway in Katabira River!
Last updated on September 11, 2018.
Ayu can now go up to the upstream!
In order to improve the upstream environment of ayu and other fish in Katabira River, we installed a fishway at the head of the Tsurumine Hashimoto style (completed in June 2017).
As a result, there was a drop of about 1.5m before installation, so Ayu, which had been stagnant downstream of the drop work, can now be confirmed upstream of the drop work.
※What is a difference?
The head work (floor stopper, floor fixing, and guard) is a structure that prevents river scouring and maintains the longitudinal and cross-sectional shape of the river.
Due to the drop work, the slope of the river is moderated, and the rapid flow during the flood is eased. Many rivers managed by Yokohama City have steep slopes, so in many cases, we have set up head works to prevent river excavation.
