The Beautiful Town Platform in Africa (ACCP) was established in April 2017 by the Ministry of the Environment and JICA as a forum for sharing knowledge and experience regarding waste in Africa and promoting the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in collaboration with Yokohama City, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-HABITAT), and African countries and cities.
Yokohama City has been positioned as a base for training in Japan for its knowledge of waste management and advanced technologies, and conducts training for managers in waste management departments in various African countries.

In addition, at the ACCP Plenary Meeting, participants exchanged opinions on issues in African countries and publicized the initiatives of Yokohama City.
Going forward, we will continue to promote cooperation with Africa in the field of waste through ACCP.

Overview of Beautiful Town Platforms in Africa

History of Establishment

At the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 6) held in August 2016, the necessity of a platform for improving waste management in Africa was confirmed, and further promotion of cooperation was declared. In response to this declaration, the Mapt Declaration, including the establishment of a platform, was made at a meeting held in Mapt, Mozambique the following year, and the "Beautiful African Town Platform" was established.

Mission

By 2030, African countries will realize clean cities and healthy lifestyles and achieve the SDGs related to waste management.
