Y-PORT Business (Waste-related)
Since January 2011, Yokohama City has been engaged in international technical cooperation (Y-PORT project) through public-private partnerships utilizing Yokohama's resources and technologies.
Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau is currently providing international technical cooperation in Da Nang, Vietnam and Metro Cebu, Philippines.
Da Nang City, Vietnam
In August 2016, the separation promotion project in Da Nang City was adopted as a JICA Grassroots Technical Cooperation Project, and we are sharing know-how and experience through dispatch of experts to Japan, such as sorting and recycling work for Da Nang City officials and other related parties. In March 2020, the second phase of the project was adopted by JICA, and we are working on issues that have been identified through the implementation of the project so far. In addition, this business pushes forward business with cooperation of city company as approach of civic cooperation.

Background
The tightness of the landfill due to an increase in the amount of waste generated in Da Nang along with economic development.
Achievements to Aim
(1st term)
- Formulation of action plans for promoting 3Rs (Three Rs) in model districts
- Improve public awareness of garbage collection by category
- Building a foundation for the introduction of recycling and waste management systems
(2nd term)
- Establishment of data collection and utilization methods related to general waste management
- Implementation of pilot projects to strengthen the collection system in model districts
- Recommendations for the revision of the Waste Management Master Plan in Da Nang City
Metro Cebu, Philippines
Through joint field surveys with the city and JICA's dissemination and demonstration projects, city companies are developing a recycling business that sorts and crushes waste plastics and manufactures alternative fuels for coal locally. With the support of the Ministry of the Environment, the company established a new waste plastic recycling plant in May 2017. We will continue to provide support for waste issues, such as the tightness of the landfill, while taking advantage of the company's experience.
