Events and event consultations involving food handling

Yokohama City has established guidelines for handling food provision at events for short-term food provision. If the event / event to be held corresponds to the event specified in the guidelines, a business license is not required in principle. If this does not apply, a business license is required.

Events that correspond to events under the guidelines for handling food provision at events

If all of the following requirements (1) to (3) are satisfied, it corresponds to the event of the guidelines for handling food provision at the event (PDF: 183KB) (hereinafter abbreviated as "the guidelines"). In this case, a business license is not required in principle. Food can be provided by submitting an event notification based on the guidelines. Please submit the documents approximately two weeks in advance with plenty of time for the event.


(1) Target events

  • Inhabitants' festivals, athletic meet, summer festivals, etc. organized by residents' organizations such as Neighborhood Associations, Neighborhood Association and shopping streets
  • Citizen's festival which is sponsored or co-sponsored by the city
  • fair festivals such as shrines and temples
  • Agricultural festivals, industrial festivals, etc. organized by various organizations such as agricultural cooperatives and fishery cooperatives
  • Various events held by welfare organizations
  • Corporate festivals (factory opening festivals, etc.) held by companies to local residents. However, this does not apply in the form of an event as part of the company's original business activities.
  • School festivals, athletic meet, bazaars, etc. hosted by schools (including nursery schools and kindergartens)

(2) Number of days
The same organizer or the same form of events should not be held more than five times a year. In addition, the number of days held per event must not exceed approximately 5 days.

(3) Hosted Area
It must be held in the activity area of the residents' organization that hosts the event and the surrounding area.

Events that do not fall under the guidelines

A business license is required to cook food, which does not fall under any of the guidelines. About business license, please confirm about food offer act by temporary special facility (when permission is required) (PDF: 298KB) and procedure of food business license acquisition (outside site). In addition, if necessary, please submit the outline of the event (event name, organizer name, sales item, number of sales, etc.) after filling out the event notification.

Common matters

  • Permission is required to sell milk (fermented milk), raw meat, and fresh seafood, regardless of whether the event falls under the guidelines.
  • When serving food at the kitchen car, please submit a food business license (copy) and vehicle inspection certificate (copy) as attached documents of the event notification.
  • Organizers of events and events should comply with hygiene management referring to the guidelines and flyers.
