1 The story of the air in the room

(1) Are you inhaling clean air?

Compared to old wooden houses, the current houses have an airtight structure with less air replacement due to the spread of aluminum sashes. Especially in condominiums, the amount of air that naturally refills is very small. In addition, when using air conditioners and stoves, the windows tend to be closed. It may seem surprising, but there are many sources in the room that pollute the air. In a highly airtight house, if you do not ventilate, the air will gradually become dirty.

(2) Comfortable temperature conditions

It is said that the temperature we feel comfortable is 18-22 degrees Celsius. When heating a room in winter, this temperature should be used as a guide, but there are some points that you need to pay attention to cooling in summer. If you suddenly enter a low-temperature room from a hot place, your body's adjustment function will not work well. This is called "cooling disease." In order to prevent "cooling disease", when cooling, make sure that the difference from the outside air is within 5 degrees.

(3) What are substances that pollute the air in the room?…

A. Floating dust
Cigarette smoke and house dust float in the air as small particles. Tobacco smoke contains carcinogenic substances.
B. Carbon monoxide
It is generated when oil and gas are burned in a state of lack of oxygen. It is extremely toxic and also produces fatal accident.
C Carbon dioxide
It is produced by human breathing and combustion of oil and gas. Although the harm is low, it is used as a guide for air stains.
D Nitrogen oxides
It is produced when oil or gas burns. It can cause chronic bronchitis, etc., and exacerbate asthma.
Oformaldehyde
It causes pain in the eyes, nose, and sore throat, dermatitis, headache, etc.

  • When you smoke (a-i-u-e-o)
  • If you use a gas stove or oil stove (i.e., u.e.)
  • Human breathing (cing)
  • Furniture, building materials, carpets (e)

(4) In order to clean the air in the room

A. Do not emit any substance that pollutes the air as much as possible
Use heating appliances that keep the air in your room as clean as possible. FF type (compulsory air supply and exhaust type) stoves and electric heaters will not pollute the air in the room. Try not to smoke as much as possible in your room.
B. Ventilate frequently
When air-conditioning, open the window once or twice an hour for about 5 minutes and return the air in the room. When using a gas stove or instantaneous water heater, be sure to turn the ventilation fan.

2 Wetness of air

In order for us to stay comfortable, the air must be moderately moist. The degree of moisture in the air is expressed as a percentage as humidity. If the humidity is too low, your throat hurts and you are more susceptible to colds. The right humidity is between 40% and 60%.

(1) About condensation

There's a drop of water on the outside of the cup containing cold drinks. This is condensation. The same thing is happening in the house. When a humid air touches a cold wall or ceiling, water drops are attached to it. When condensation occurs, the walls are stained or molded.

  • Condensation is more likely to occur under the following conditions.
  • The humidity in the room is high
  • Low ventilation
  • There is a large temperature difference between the south and north sides of the house.

(2) To prevent condensation

  • To prevent condensation, be aware of the following:
  • Do not use too much humidifier
  • Ventilate frequently
  • Improve the ventilation of the closet

3 The mold in the house

Some molds are useful, such as koji mold that makes sake and soy sauce, but it is a problem if they grow in their homes. Not only during the rainy season, but also during the year of mold breeding.

(1) There is so much damage to mold

  • Get sick
  • Make food worse
  • It hurts houses and furniture
  • There is a risk of mite breeding

(2) Four conditions for the breeding of mold

  • There is a source of nutrition
  • High humidity (more than 80%)
  • High temperature (20 to 30 degrees)
  • Poor ventilation

(3) Important points to prevent mold

  • Discharge moisture from the kitchen or bathroom to the outside so that it does not stay inside the house.
  • Eliminate the temperature difference in the house as much as possible and do not condensation. Use heat insulating materials for walls and roofs.
  • Dry the futon
  • For a closet, lay a saw and open the door a little.
  • Improve ventilation (ventilation). (all year)
  • Use dehumidifiers or dehumidifiers

(4) If mold has grown

  • Soak the disinfecting alcohol (ethanol) into cotton and wipe it off.
  • Use a mold remover. (Be sure to read the instructions.)
