Corporate introduction
Founded in 1892. Manchinro Co., Ltd., which has been operating in Yokohama-Chinatown as a long-established Cantonese restaurant for 125 years. The eye-catching pure Chinese-style building gives an exotic atmosphere and is loved not only by Japan but also by customers around the world. Currently, there are 137 employees and 108 part-time workers. Of these, there are 114 female employees. This time, Mr. Kanemasa Hayashi, President and CEO, talked about how to bring out the appeal of women and create an environment that is easy to work and play an active role. .
Question 1. First of all, please tell us about hiring women in the food and beverage industry.
I think the food and beverage industry has the image of an industry where women are active, but I think that's true. However, it is not an industry where women can play an active role, but it depends on their hard work and abilities. By the way, in the case of Manchinrou, we have never changed our evaluation by gender, age, nationality, etc. It's always a realmism. In addition, we confirm what each employee values in hiring. For example, if you want to spend time with your family at night, just ask early. Cooking, hall, office work, and security work according to the person's abilities and hopes. Therefore, I evaluate people with high abilities and select them as superiors. However, the high ability I say is not a person who can do anything alone like Superman. A person who can harmonize with the people around him. A person who has high communication skills and is good at moving people. Raising subordinates and providing guidance so that they can take their own place will improve the quality of shops and departments. On the other hand, it is not necessary to do a job that will reduce the quality if the superior rests. I often put pressure on those people, saying, "If you don't raise them down early, you'll not be enough as a manager" (laughs).
Question 2. What kind of women are active in your company?
At Manchinro, both the kitchen manager and the personnel manager are women. The reason why I chose was because I have a high ability as I mentioned earlier. I think it's a characteristic of men and women, but specifically, women can see things from various angles and at the same time do a lot of work. For example, if you are a hall manager, you have a broad field of view and you have to be constantly attentive to any customer. Women can look at the customer's face and observe whether they want tea or water, and immediately see them. If it is a man, you may only care about the customer and you may not notice around you. I don't think men are inferior, but I think they're right in the right place. Many men have a high ability to increase concentration and work on one thing, so it would be better to have them demonstrate their strength in such a place to be a shop for themselves. The same is true. Interviewing and hiring people requires analytical skills. Women can judge where to work calmly and effectively. In the world, it is said that "more women promote the active participation of women", but I feel like I said something more now (laughs). If the management of the company can bring out the appeal of women, I think there will be many places to play active roles as soon as possible.
Question 3. Do you have any cautions in supporting female employees?
I will never forgive sexual harassment and power harassment. This is more important than establishing a system. If you don't lose it thoroughly, you won't be able to create a workplace where women can play an active role. I can say this. In the past, during the year-end party, when a drunk customer returned home, I had sexual harassment with a female employee at the reception. Just as I was there, I heard at once what happened. The customer wasn't bad and still in good condition, so I thought it wasn't a joke. However, what I thought was the most problematic was that the hall manager didn't respond immediately. He dared to say loud enough to hear in the hall, and scolded, "If you can't protect your subordinates, quit the manager." I wanted to tell not only her but also the employees and customers who work. Even though it is a customer service business, I refuse bad things. The boss protects his subordinates. The company considers the happiness of all employees and protects them thoroughly. In addition, there is an opinion box directly connected to the president at Manchinro. Anything you care about can be expressed to me. There's no future in a company where employees have to work while putting up with various things.
Question 4. Finally, please tell us about creating an environment where employees can work easily.
In fact, when the main store of Manchinro was burned down in a fire in 2002, I thought about stopping reconstruction. I really thought I should build a rental building and live while earning rent income (laughs). However, we receive money from all over the world, such as the United States, India, China, and other countries. Customers who used it before said, "Is it okay?" "Is the store of memories waiting for you." Some of them left their payouts (laughs). I noticed at that time. Manchinrou is not mine. It's yours now. Also, if the store is closed, the working employees will have to look for a new job. That's why it's for customers and employees. I decided to rebuild it right away. And since then, we've come to value our customer questionnaire more than ever. We will receive your opinions every day, and we will improve the problems each time. In addition, we listened to the voices of employees who support customer satisfaction, and created cafeterias and naps to create a more comfortable working environment. By doing so, not only customers but also employees will be more comfortable. It will be a place where all employees, as well as women, can easily work and play an active role. That's the figure of Manchinro, which I aim for. There are still some improvements, but I would like to make Manchinrou a place full of smiles.
Voice of Female Employees
Miki Iemura (Joined in 2008)
Before joining Manchinro, I was involved in personnel and labor work at a company in Tokyo. At that time, I spent nearly two hours commuting from my parents' home in Yokosuka, but I started thinking that I could work a little closer, so I was looking for a place to change jobs mainly in Yokohama. I decided to make Manchinro because the female officer I met at the interview was very nice. I think it's a great thing that I came to eat in the past and had a good impression. Currently, while raising children as a mother, I am the section manager of the Human Resources and Labor Division. Actually, once, I had too much work and childcare only in myself, and there was a time when I was worried. When I consulted with the president at that time, "I'm sorry I couldn't notice it. Because children are brought up together. Let's think together so that you don't have to hold it alone. " I was really happy, and I felt much easier. In the future, as a human resources and labor professional, I want to make Manchinrou a place where everyone can work and want to work. To that end, I would like to study more and give back to this company and to the president.
