Interview with female employees "Sanyo Printing Co., Ltd."
A company that conveys rich creativity using media mix as a weapon
Last updated on July 29, 2024.
Corporate introduction
Founded in Minami-ku, Yokohama in 1948. In 1976, the Company established a design department to become a knowledge-intensive industry. In 1990, a new plant was built in Fukuura, Kanazawa-ku, Yokohama, and was fully relocated. Established an artist network with the aim of discovering and fostering young artists. Based on conventional offset printing, we will expand and expand web and video content based on the technology of "communication". In 2013, it was certified as a Yokohama-style regional contribution company.
Interview with female employees <brilliing tomorrow with two jobs of sales and art directors>
Deputy General Manager of Sales Department: Yoshiko Yuasa (21st year after joining the company)
He joined the company as a new graduate in 1998. He joined the sales department and worked for three years to develop new companies, and was in charge of route sales. Current position since 2014.
In addition to working in sales, he has been involved in planning and operating exhibitions and other activities as the director of "Artist Network + Compass" operated mainly by Sanyo Printing Co., Ltd. since 2012. We turned the two wheels of sales and art director, and heard the secrets of shining lively.
Question 1. Could you tell me about your current job?
Since the fourth year of joining the company, we have been conducting proposal-based sales to existing clients. We undertake commercial printing such as posters, flyers, and company information, but special emphasis is placed on planning and design, and the feature is that design, editing, printing, and bookbinding are performed under an internal integrated system. Sales use a variety of tools to understand the needs of clients, make use of various tools to attract customers and promote sales, and cooperate with designers and others to realize them. One of the great tastes of this job is to create ideas that match the client's wishes.
Question 2. What kind of team do you work with?
The team formation will change depending on the project. Each one works as an individual project, so I'm always thinking about who to ask. After allocating work to the Production Management Department (design team) and writers, we will start production after a meeting. It's my job in the sales department, but in some cases I'm in charge of interviewers for video shooting. Various roles are required, such as giving ideas and getting involved in production.
Question 3. What is important to lead the project to success?
Recently, communication with clients can be diluted because the work can be speedy, such as sending the created data by e-mail. In such a case, what we need to be aware of is the “discognition” of the product, which often occurs between clients and sales and designers. It is important to have a firm discussion with both parties as a bridge between the two parties so that there is no gap in sales.
But sometimes it is difficult to get rid of the gap. Actually, I had such an experience before, and I consulted with my boss to be present. At that time, my boss advised me to solve it yourself. If my boss solves the problem instead, I'll just be branded by my client as a "no good person." That's why it's important to solve it on your own without escaping.
Since then, we have been doing our best at any time and working hard to provide more than our clients' expectations.
Question 4. How did you become the director of "Artist Network + Compass"?
"Artist Network + Compass" organizes exhibitions and workshops with the aim of connecting artists and local communities. This is a development of the arts and culture support (mecena activities) that we have been conducting since 1994. I have been involved since it was inaugurated in 2012. Born in an art university, he was selected as a director for his experience of studying exhibition planning and art criticism as a curator when he was a student.
As the first activity, in December 2012, a parent-child workshop was held in collaboration with artist Kiyotaka Tanaka. We were blessed with many visitors and achieved success. In the following year, Mr. Tanaka became the producer and started a “Company Whole Gallery” where we could learn about the fun of “manufacturing”.
Question 5. What are the characteristics of the company Marugoto Gallery, which celebrated its sixth year this year?
This exhibition is an exhibition of art works made by artists using waste materials from factories, such as ink cans, nonwoven fabrics, and cutting paper, with their own sensitivity. Moreover, by displaying it in internal conference rooms and free spaces, I am confident that it will be an exhibition that takes advantage of the unique characteristics of industrial housing complex, which is different from museums.
Workshop activities are also attractive. It is very popular among the participants for taking pictures of photographers and factories in Kanazawa Wardhousing complex and making Misanga from waste materials.
It is also characterized by the fact that art works and workshops are commissioned to different artists every year in search of new ideas. Furthermore, since 2015, the scale has been expanded and held in cooperation with local companies and universities. We have visitors enjoy the chemical reaction of waste materials and art.
Question 6. How are the reactions and effects of the surroundings?
By experiencing art appreciation and workshops, local visitors have discovered the new appeal of “manufacturing” companies. Also, a few years ago, an art college student who created art works became an assistant at the university and instructs art students participating in this exhibition. I'm glad to see you grow up like that.
But the most pleased may be our employees and partner companies. What we throw away as waste materials is transformed into a treasure called art work. It seems that all of them are caught in their hearts. In addition, the management team of each company has expressed joy that exhibiting art works has made communication with employees more smoother.
In the first place, the president and chairman of our company wanted to make it a company that creates good designs while interacting with artists, so it was an activity that started. I hope that by directing, it will be an exhibition where you can see the future of your work.
Question 7. Please tell us about the sales and director's work and their respective goals.
As for the director's work, we have decided to continue the "Company Whole Gallery" until 2020, so our goal is to focus on it and succeed. After that, I would like to make use of my ties with neighboring companies and the connections I have built with artists to think about interesting projects.
As a sales business, I would like to always study new sales promotion tools, such as video shooting work, so that I can get more and more opportunities.
Question 8. What is your outlook for the company?
I want to create a workplace where my juniors can work easily. I want to be useful to juniors, such as consolidating problems and proposing proposals to improve them.
Both sales and directors look at the future of the company and aim for a further leap forward by demonstrating their own ideas.
Our company's best point/In-house BAR to enjoy for multiple purposes
Twenty years ago, when the company moved to its current location, there were no restaurants nearby, so the company's BAR was created by the president to provide a place to relax after work. At the time of the "Company Whole Gallery", art works are exhibited and open to visitors. This year, the work of flower designer Michiko Igarashi will be exhibited. The gorgeous flower arrangement delights visitors.
Message from the President
Chairman and CEO: Keiko Akiyama
Our company has 15 women out of 61 full-time employees. Women account for 25% of the total. Twenty years ago, when I became president and CEO, female employees have been engaged in work on the design team, printing and bookbinding, and have been able to return to work smoothly after childbirth.
The reason is that every job requires women's sensibilities and meticulousness.
For example, sales clerks are required to take a step ahead of customers, have a strict consumer perspective, and have a good sense of proposing printed material designs. If you choose human resources that meet these qualities, the number of women naturally increases, and now six women are engaged.
In addition, in 2012 and 2013, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we collaborated with local Japanese sweets shops to develop Japanese sweets. At that time, our female employees were in charge of package design, naming, and ideas for making Japanese sweets. famous confectionery, which is loved by the community, has been completed.
I hear that many women think that it would be difficult to re-employ if they leave their jobs due to childbirth and have a blank in working. But that's only what the person thinks so, and society and companies expect women. Women who experience child-rearing and housework have a high level of task processing ability and are capable of demonstrating their abilities in society. We are supporting our success.
