The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is an international conference on African development co-hosted by the Government of Japan with the United Nations, the World Bank, etc. It has been held once every five years since 1993, and the fifth meeting was also held in Yokohama in June 2013, following the fourth meeting in 2008.

- Venue : Pacifico-yokohama
- Attendees: More than 4,500 people, including 39 leaders, 51 African countries, 31 development partner countries and Asian countries, 72 international and regional organizations, representatives of civil society such as private sector and NGOs, etc.
The theme of the initiative "Africa, to a partner that grows together."

African Festa
Following the 4th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICADIV) held in Yokohama, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the City of Yokohama co-hosted the African Festa, one of the largest African festivals in Japan, which had been held in Tokyo until then. The venue, Aka Renga Soko, is full of charms of Africa, including live performances by African artists, introduction of the embassy's home country and NGO activities, lecture corners to learn about Africa, fashion shows in folk costumes, and food booths where you can taste African cuisine.

By selecting a healthy food menu to prevent lifestyle-related diseases, part of the sales will be donated for school lunches for children in Africa.
A menu where a single meal that you usually do casually contributes to yourself and someone.
The “TABLE FOR TWO” project was implemented at the ward office and the cafeteria of the city hall.
Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize
The 1st Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize Award Ceremony was held in Yokohama as an important event during the conference.
At Kanazawa Wardhama, Yokohama City, there was a Nagahama Quarantine Station to prevent the spread of cholera. Therefore, Dr. Hideyo Noguchi has been quarantine for about five months in 1899 (1899, then Dr. 22 years old) as an assistant marine port quarantine doctor, and has also contributed to the discovery of plast bacteria patients. .
Currently, the site of the Nagahama Quarantine Station is being maintained as Nagahama Noguchi Memorial Park. In the park, Nagahama Hall, which restored the appearance of the old office building of the Yokohama Quarantine Station, and the only bacteria laboratory in Japan as a research facility related to Dr. Hideyo Noguchi, are preserved, and materials are also displayed in the laboratory.
