Complaint Casebook Black Change due to Honey in Black Tea
Last updated on March 3, 2025.
1.Overview
When I put honey in black tea, it turned black.
2.Commentary
Honey contains a lot of iron. This iron reacts with the tannin of tea to produce tannin iron (black). If you add lemon to black tea, the color of the tea becomes lighter, because tannins fade due to acid.
Tannins are also contained in green tea, so they may turn black depending on the iron content in tap water.
