Kamaishi's events were saved by 99.8% of the approximately 3,000 elementary and junior high school students in Kamaishi City, making use of their daily learning and evacuating each and every one.
In Great East Japan Earthquake, Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture, had a wide area of tsunami, but at Unosumai Elementary School and Kamaishi Higashi Junior High School, about 570 elementary school studenｔ students took the initiative in evacuation immediately after the earthquake, and local residents who saw them evacuated to a pass 1.6 km away, saving many lives.
