2023 "Firefighting Clothes Up Cycle Project!"

Last updated on July 14, 2023.

We will carry out an upcycle project for firefighting clothing with two private companies.

City of Yokohama, Fire Bureau, in cooperation with Intersection Co., Ltd. (Intersection) and Mattrz Co., Ltd. (Matters), will upcycle discarded fire clothing into outdoor goods to contribute to the SDGs and encourage fire prevention. ※1 will be implemented.

※1 Upcycle means giving new value to products that are supposed to be discarded and regenerating them (creative reuse).

Process

In Fire Bureau, approximately 200 pieces of fire-fighting clothing (approximately 800 kg) are disposed of as industrial waste every year, so there were problems in terms of disposal costs and environmental issues.
In response to these issues such as mass production, mass consumption, and waste disposal, from the perspective of the SDGs, we decided to implement this initiative from the perspective of an upcycle that adds new value and reuses it.
