Tozuka Elementary School fifth graders (4 classes, 161 students) make rice on the rooftop paddy field (34m above ground, about 50m2) on the 8th floor of the Totsuka Ward Office, with the cooperation of farmers in JA Yokohama and Maiokacho.
Rice making on the rooftop paddy field begins with the relocation of the ward office in 2013, and this is the 10th time this year. Through one year of rice cultivation on the rooftop paddy field, elementary school studenｔ will deepen their understanding of agriculture and interest in locally grown and consumed.
