In order to spread and enhance school lunches, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has designated schools and communal kitchens that have achieved excellent results as “school lunch excellent schools, etc.” and individuals and groups as “school lunch meritors”. Awards are given every year. This time, Miyatani Elementary School in Yokohama City (6-7 Miyagaya, Nishi-ku, Yokohama City) received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology commendation as an "excellent school lunch school".
(In addition, nine schools nationwide, including Miyatani Elementary School, have been awarded "Excellent School Lunch Schools.")
