Yokohama City Jido-yuenchi Park

Yokohama City Jido-yuenchi Park is located in Karibacho, bordering Minami Ward.
The park was planned in 1922 by Yokohama City and elementary school principals in the city to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the modern school system in Japan.
Regarding the development of the elementary school studenｔ Amusement Park, in addition to the budget for Yokohama City, donations from volunteers were also used to buy land. The donation exceeding 70,000 yen at that time included 10 yen per person donated by elementary school students in the city with monthly fees.
During the maintenance, there were problems with the occurrence of the Great Kanto Earthquake and lack of funds, but the development of sports facilities such as sports grounds and swimming pools also progressed, and the opening ceremony was held in October 1929.
In 1930, a boy group from Hawaii came to Japan and interacted with the Japanese boy group using the elementary school studenｔ Amusement Park as a camp site.
After the war, a part of the park became a grave of the British Commonwealth war dead who fell in a distant foreign land, but the site over 14 hectares still has rich nature.
Various events are held by local people, such as the Kanbai-no-kai in spring, a disaster prevention camp with children in summer, and the fallen leaves Thanksgiving Day in autumn.
In addition, there are about 650 cherry trees in the park, which will delight visitors with the canola flower blooming at the same time.
