Folk tale of Konan Ward
The checkpoint site of Yoshimori Wada
There are small hills on both sides of the climbing of Mochi Isaka, at the border between the highest door and Bessho.
People in the land call this area "Wadayama".
This is because there is a legend that Yoshimori Wada, who was in a key position in Kamakura shogunate, established the checkpoint on this steep slope.
There seems to be a legend called "Avenge of Yoshimori Wada" near this "Wadayama", but the details are unknown.
There is also a large mound in Wadayama, and it is said that there was something in amazakedai called Shuzuka.
It is said that Yoshimori Wada was trusted by Yoritomo, and was assigned to the chief executive of the samurai office, a government office that organizes samurai, and created forts to protect Kamakura in various places.
This rugged hilly area, including Wadayama, would have been a convenient terrain for use as a checkpoint.
And since the "Kamakura-shita Road" that passes through Musashi no Kuni to Oshu, the northern Kanto region and the present Tohoku region, there are many legends that Yoshimori Wada set up many checkpoint and forts along this road.
It is said that there was a large castle built by Yoshimori Wada, called Sekijo, near the housing complex of Noba.
From the north side to the west side of Sekijo, along the upper reaches of the Maarai River, the "Kamakurashita Road" passes, so this area was an important place for the checkpoint to protect Kamakura.
Even now, legends such as the ruins of Yoshimori Wada's mansion are found around Sakaigawa, the "Kamakura no Michi", and on the old paths of Kanazawa Ward and Sakae Ward.
In particular, it is famous that Wada's child, Saburo Asahina, made a cut-through of Asahina overnight.
The Azuma Kagami, which was created during the Kamakura period, does not write much about Yoshimori Wada, but if you look at the legend of this archeological distribution, you can see that he was really a very smart strategist.
