Column on Health: The theme this time is "Let's be careful about infectious diseases and food poisoning!"
Flu
What kind of symptoms?
The season is from December to March.
It is an infectious disease that causes systemic symptoms such as high fever, headache, general malaise, muscle pain, and joint pain that rapidly worsen after an incubation period of 1 to 3 days. In rare cases, infants and the elderly may become more severe due to encephalitis.
How to prevent infection?
Hand washing and gargle are effective. During the flu season, refrain from going out to crowds and downtown areas. Vaccination is also effective. If you have a cough, don't forget your cough etiquette.
Norovirus
What kind of symptoms?
Recently, outbreaks have been seen throughout the year, but the most epidemic season is winter. Symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and fever often recover in a few days, but can be severe in infants and the elderly with weak resistance.
How do you feel?
Infects when foods contaminated with the virus (such as bivalve) are eaten without heating enough. Food contaminated through virus-infected cooks can also cause poisoning. Scattering vomit, which family members and caregivers touch the feces and vomit of people infected with the virus, may float and become infected.
How to prevent infection?
Remove the virus on your hand by washing with soap.

When treating vomit and feces, wear masks and vinyl gloves to avoid direct contact. Use chlorine bleach for disinfection. Alcohol and inverse soap are not very effective. Put the used masks, gloves, rags, etc. in a plastic bag and throw it away.
Avoid raw food as much as possible, and heat it at least 85 degrees for at least 1 minute so that the center can be cooked.
