Yokohama City Council presented 840,000 yen to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in donation to support Ukrainian people, including their sister city Odessa, following Russia's military invasion. The donation will be used for humanitarian assistance activities implemented by UNHCR in Ukraine and neighboring countries through the UNHCR Association, the official UNHCR support window in Japan.
Fumio Shimizu and Vice-Chairman Shoji Takahashi visited the UNHCR Association and handed the list of donation on behalf of the Yokohama City Council to Ritsu, Chief Representative of UNHCR in Japan.
Mr. Shimizu expressed his condolences to a large number of victims, including children and civilians, and conveyed that Yokohama City Council is very concerned about the situation that has deteriorated significantly.
