In the lecture, Mr. Ogawa explained the outline of the organization of the United Nations Economic and Social Welfare Bureau, the role played by the Bureau's Statistics Department (information collection, analysis, creation of norms and dissemination activities), the process of formulating SDG-related indicators (232 indicators), the importance of the citizen registration system (CR) in order to realize the SDGs, as well as the analysis and response of COVID-19 in each country.
He also talked about various experiences before becoming a UN employee, including university life and study abroad experience, as well as career-related matters such as employment examinations and promotion of United Nations employees.
As in the previous lecture (Part 1: held on October 31, 2020), 13 students belonging to Yoshinaga Seminar, Faculty of International Commerce, Yokohama City University participated in this lecture, which will be the second part of the lecture.
During the Q & A session, participants asked questions such as "How to make decisions between countries with different ways of thinking, culture, and values when setting Norm", "About the risk of information leakage due to ID and hacking of important personal information" and "Why to recommend overseas experience when you are young", and Mr. Ogawa answered from the perspective of an employee who is actually active at the forefront.
At a later date, a student said, "It was interesting to talk about the introduction of new digital technologies related to the citizen registration system." "I learned the importance of preparing for it on a daily basis so that you can grab it immediately when you have a chance." "I was able to learn about the United Nations and international organizations and have a sense of accomplishment that I could not taste anywhere else." He said, "I wanted to learn the wonderfulness of accomplishing something internationally and think about the future with a view to working at international organizations."
