At the lecture, Mr. Miwa talked about his career experience under the theme of "Work at the United Nations and UN Peace Activities", and then talked about the role and main duties of the United Nations Office for Operations Support (DOS), the duties in charge of the director's office, and the specialized fields such as UN peace activities.
First of all, regarding careers, he talked about the opportunity to become a UN employee, what fields he has been working on since he was a student to achieve the goals, and his experience in internships, private companies and UN volunteers, etc., and how these experiences are used in his current duties.
Next, in the field of specialization, the Operations Support Department (DOS) assigned to the Operations Support Department (OS), which includes supply chain management related to procurement, storage and transportation of supplies throughout the United Nations, arrangement of the COVID-19 infection vaccine for U.N. staff in the field, guidance on personnel medical care related to the infectious diseases, establishment, reduction of new field missions such as PKO missions, response to clearing, and equipment management at UN offices, etc.
Regarding the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (PKOs), he spoke about the principles, history, missions, personnel, martyrs, etc. of PKOs, and as part of this initiative launched by Secretary-General Guterres (SG) as a recent initiative related to PKOs, as well as the triangular explanation of Japan's partnership with countries such as Switzerland and Brazil.
In the Q & A session on the field of specialization, the participating students said, "I would like to ask you about the specific details and reasons if you feel that it can only be done from the position of the United Nations, compared to activities committed to the region when working at the Kenya Office of the Japan Centre for Conflict Prevention (JCCP). "What is the monitoring system implemented by the Operations Support Bureau regarding PKO?" "What is the relationship between the United Nations Secretariat and the General Assembly and the United Nations Security Council?" "What are the benefits of supporting countries in the Triangle Partnership Program and measures to increase the number of supporting countries?"
I had a question like that.
In a question-and-answer session on careers, the participating students said, "What do you have considered when making decisions that will be a major turning point in life, such as resigning from a private company or entering a graduate school in a foreign country?" "What is the impact of experience in private companies and UN volunteers on their careers?" "How did you showcase your expertise and abilities related to performing your duties in the United Nations application documents and interviews?"
I had a question like that.
A total of 11 students from Yokohama City University's Faculty of International Science and Technology and the Faculty of Liberal Arts participated in this lecture.
At a later date, the student said
"When I heard that political instability continues in countries receiving peacekeeping operations, I was reminded of the need for support for peacekeeping operations," he said.
"We understood that the Triangle Partnership Program is an excellent program that provides the opportunity for supporting countries to contribute to international peace, even if it is not a military aid form." 、
"When I think about my career, I realized that I needed a long-term perspective."
"I learned that it is necessary to have a solid career in order to become a United Nations employee, and instead of being passive and learning, I always act with a purpose within myself to set goals and return them to myself. "
"I was impressed with the part that said, "It's more important to experience what and what skills I gained than where I got a job."
I had such comments.
