NO.22 Concluded an agreement with Hodogaya and Asahi Ward Buddhist Church to provide facilities in the event of a large-scale disaster.
Last updated on January 30, 2025.
On Wednesday, January 22, a ceremony was held at the Hodogaya Ward Office to sign a cooperative agreement with the Hodogaya-Asahi Ward Buddhist Association (hereinafter referred to as the “Kyodo Buddhist Association”) to provide facilities in the event of a large-scale earthquake or other disaster.
Mr. Shigehiko Shimura of Toko-ji Temple, the chairman of the ceremony, came to the ceremony.
Based on a comprehensive agreement on facility provision concluded between Yokohama City and Yokohama City Buddhist Church in 2022, this agreement was concluded by Hodogaya Ward and the District Buddhist Church. Hodogaya Ward is the third ward following Nishi Ward and Seya Ward.
In the event that a large-scale disaster occurs and there is a shortage of evacuation shelters for residents, 14 temples in the ward will be able to provide facilities as refuge and parking lots. (The temple is marked with a sticker in the photo.)
Since the announcement of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake and the Nankai Trough Warning Information, the importance of preparing for disasters has become even greater. In recent years, natural disasters such as storms and floods have become more severe due to the effects of climate change, causing large-scale damage in various places, and it is important to prepare for this.
A large-scale disaster is likely to cause many refugees. It is very encouraging for the ward to secure more evacuation sites, which is familiar to the inhabitants of the ward, thanks to the courtesy of the ward Buddhist Church.
With the conclusion of this agreement, we will work on further strengthening the disaster prevention system of the ward for "safety and security" of inhabitants of a ward.
